nope. got the type s because I need the rear seats.

If I didn't, I'd shop the Supra.
I agree.

Z does have double-wishbone going for it. Pretty rare at this price these days.

Meh what good is double wishbone if it’s not optimized and set up correctly

from what I’ve heard. A tuned z with full bolt ons and tires still runs laps slower than a bone stock zf8 mk5 Supra. The Supra is a macpherson too

Nissan needs to invest in the z’s chassis and suspension some more imo

This. They slapped a turbo, a new skin and updated a few interior bits from the original 350z (basically slapped on a screen). I owned a manual 370, and a manual G35 coupe, and while I liked the cars, the ITS is far more engaging to drive. The transmission in Nissans is meh.

The only issue with them is the suspension geo. Otherwise for balance they're solid.

Just like the Zs that came before it, it will need stiffer springs and corrected geo for better tire options and it will run fast times. The original 350 and then updated 370 chassis were leagues better than a lot else at the time. They got the name baby cayman for a reason. They were capable of more power then and many track oriented builds have run 400whp+ reliably.

Their Achilles heel has always been oil temps and beating up the diff. As long as oiling and driveline heat are addressed, should be a fine platform. I dunno about the new steering though. I just prefer hydraulic... Fluid boil and all.

I’d rather an M2 over this; far more capable.

I’ve also heard horror stories from GTR owners with Nissan techs. I would never buy anything more than an econo-box from that brand.

I like the car. I'd consider it, but as someone already mentioned- no rear seats is non-negotiable.

And yes I think I like the Supra better, but I'd drive both. M2 also would be in the mix... but honestly I'd probably pick an F87 M2 over all of them. Especially a CS. Manual. In blue with gold wheels.

I'm still over here waiting for a reimagining of the Silvia.

The Z is an enthusiast bargain, just gets no love. Who cares if its based on a old platform. If that platform is good, it works. Plenty of good cars have done this.

Having owned at the same time a 370 sport and 981, they are very different experiences.

If I didn't still have the 981, I'd be hard pressed not to look at a new Z for sports car value. Granted, I do love Zs going back to the 240 but trying to look at it objectively, 400HP turbo 2 seat sports car, where is there a better value? Its less then the supra.

I'm in the same boat as @optronix , 4 doors and a hatch with a manual: love me the ITS.

I don’t disagree with U bro. Buy what U like. Buy what speaks to you. But that old platform is clearly overwhelmed by the z’s extra tq man. Kinematically, it’s tired and needs to be totally redone. It comes off like that Mercedes shit the charger and challenger are built on

sure U can drop 15k in the suspension and brakes and engine. But what happened when U only drop half of that on a mk5 Supra? See what I’m saying? The z could’ve been great if extra attention was given to it

not gonna compare it to the m2. I feel like that would be too Unfair šŸ˜‚

No rear seats. And I don’t like the looks at all. I am far more curious what the new skyline will be like.

I understand for many the need for four doors and a decent backseat. For me I don't need those things in this car, I am just looking for the best driving experience value, and maybe a step up into a true rear wheel drive platform. Also, isn't the new Z a hatch after all, and one that is likely more practical and easy to live with than the Supra? Finally I would not have brought up this question if it was not the Nismo version, as I do not think the regular Z is sporty enough. Appreciate all the answers back!

Took the words right out of my mouth.

An S15 and an F87CS are on my short list of cars to own.

My opinion about the Z is that in vacuum it's fantastic but amongst its peers it's a little lackluster. There's probably something I'm missing, much the same way that enthusiasts scoff at the Type S, but my brother owns a last gen 370Z and as much as I think it's a great car, I feel it's a bit too generic for my liking.
