If you do it this method it will break the retaining tabs or make the collar very loose upon reinstall. Remove the center console (just pull up). There is a harness that’s connected to it so u can’t take it off all of the way. Use a small flathead to lift the clips on either side of the collar...

Coworker got me a fun toy. Model car wind tunnel. I didn’t want to take the ITS model car out of the box so I used what was already opened. Super fun.

This is what I did with the original oem stick on caps. A good ceramic coat with UV protection should do the trick. I reapplied once at about the year mark.
