No mod but a question... Anybody daily their DE5 during winter/snow? What's your experience driving this car in snowy conditions? Potentially moving from the devils armpit (Houston) to a higher elevation area (Utah). Assuming there will be a ton of salt and roads will be plowed, but I don't want to deal with long-term storage (renter) and would be down to swap dedicated winter tires. I guess ground clearance may be the biggest issue.. maybe it's time to sell for another truck

I've driven in 2 winters in the Pittsburgh area, car did fine with DWS all seasons.

Tires are the greatest factor when it comes to winter driving. I think the real question should be, do you want to expose your DE5 to road salt, or drive a truck/beater instead. Only you can answer that.

Thanks for the input. I'm running DWS06+ right now... not too concerned about road salt. However, I've never driven in snow and only lived in sunny climates so I don't know what I don't know. I do have a TSX Wagon I can also daily that offers a bit more clearance, but then that means finding storage for the DE5 during winter. Guess we'll see!

DWS will be good in mild snow, but I imagine you get the real stuff out in Utah. If you want to plow through deep snow or ice with confidence on a daily basis, you should get dedicated snow tires.

I used to over think it too (coming from the Bay area), but its really not that bad with our modern cars. Tires are important and you got the right ones.

My ITS has handled two northern midwest winters pretty well. For what it's worth, I swap to a dedicated set of winter tires/wheels once daily low temps are consistently below ~40F.

I haven't driven in really deep snow, but at that point ground clearance is going to be an additional issue beyond just grip. The ITS has otherwise handled some snow/slush, ice, and packed down snow though and good tires + common sense driving have gotten me and the car through it all just fine.

There are tons of other threads to reference for the snow tire issue, but you'll also find you'll get a wide variety of opinions.

The consensus boils down to:

- NOT drive in cold/wet, snow, or icy conditions on summer tires
- all seasons are a great compromise for moderate winters driving on treated roads
- snow tires are required for actual driving in snow e.g., untreated roads or very heavy snow

I've run Castrol srf, endless, rbf660, and Rbf600. They're all great. I run the Rbf600 now because I flush frequently anyway and it comes in smaller bottles at a good price point. The 660 and srf are typically overkill unless you're pushing a really heavy vehicle.

1000 ML bottle of SRF is enough for a full flush. Or two 500 ml bottles of RBF 600 or 660.

Just changed my fluid, including washers for fill, drain and fill level bolts as well. You can pick them up at any honda/acura dealer for cheap, like less than $15 for all three washers.

The ACDelco posted above is popular for good reason. A more appropriate weight for the syncros and a good additive package.

I am running Redline MTL and it's a marked improvement over stock in terms of engagement speed. In the summer you can go a weight higher and run MT-85.

Both ACD and Redline are excellent choices.

All good stuff mentioned above. I'll add, once you crack the bottle of fluid, it's good for up to three months, then pitch it. 1000mL should be good, but if that fluid got into a lot of crevices, you might want an extra bottle around just in case... Same fluid for clutch with same MC, so just go ahead and bleed out the clutch too.

I haven't done the trans fluid yet. I'll do that over this winter. Wonder if there's anything special for the diff.
