Exactly my experience too. I actually like the slight tonal increase as it makes me feel more connected to the engine RPM, which helps me drive smoother.
Agreed.

On the subject of general weirdness when going on/off throttle, I replaced the springs in my throttle pedal with ones that increased the weight of it approximately 24%.

That was actually a huge help with low-speed throttle manipulation and going on/off throttle because the stock pedal is just a bit too light. It's the same pedal in all Civics and Integras and I suspect it's optimized for the cars that have a bit less torque.

If you have smaller feet (or a smaller frame generally) it may not help much, but I think the 24% increase was just about perfect for me. I should do a writeup on how to take the pedal apart and what springs to use.

I think the term "break-in" is often overused in enthusiast circles (particularly in scenarios where it doesn't apply, like electronics 🙄 )
Is this a hi-fi reference?

My Overland Designs extended height shift boot came in. I think it looks great!

How much height did this get you over the OEM boot? Can you take a measurement from the boot retainer to the trim ring?

I have my height maxed out with the OEM boot currently, and I'm thinking about driving it around a bit with the knob set even higher (and the OEM boot detached) just to see if I like it more.

I actually ended up lowering my knob height and I went with a different knob style too.

That said, the one extra inch I specified for the boot wasn't enough for a maxed out shifter height without looking a little like a Christmas tree in profile. I would specify maybe 2 or even 3 extra inches if you intend to run at the max height on the acuity shifter.

I see what you're after now.

That's a little different. You won't get that without replacing most of the bushings in the pivot mechanism or the whole thing.
This. The acuity 4 way is what you’ll want.

I think the max height is too high for my taste. I put it where I wanted it initially, and after the console went back in, I figured out I would have to drop it another 1/2 or 3/4 inch in order to not have the boot stretched out tight in first gear.

The proportions of the OEM boot seem weird. It's only the odd gears that have any kind of issue and particularly first. The console is at a subtle angle and it's almost like the boot is tapered in the wrong direction.

I wonder if you can just remove the boot from the trim ring and rotate it 180 degrees to gain more slack in every gear.

Yeah I think the OEM boot is pretty weird too. I would just spend the 75 and get the Overland boot. It's good quality and I'm glad I did it.

Well I figure if I'm going to have to remove the boot from the black plastic bracket at the base, I may as well experiment with turning it around. If I get time this weekend I may try it out.

I installed an Acuity boot collar, so it's much easier to remove now.

The OEM boot is indeed designed with some forward lean to it, that's probably why you're having issues with the odd gears. If you reverse it you'll have issues with the even gears.
