I suspect my Pilkington glass was installed incorrectly because the HUD display was undeniably distorted and crooked. Along with the noise and vibration, I couldn’t accept it as it was.

Now to see if my tint guy wants to cover new windshield tint in his warranty. Feeling a little naked with a clear windshield.

I have never had an issue with any other vehicle I have had. The 2nd day I had my ITS I had a small rock hit right under my HUD. Didn't star or anything. Left a tiny blemish on the window.

Yeah I don't know what it is about acura windshield and paint, but it chips like no other. IMHO, ppf is pretty mandatory on this car. First 400 miles I stayed a quarter mile behind people and only drove as necessary until my ppf appointment. I still had 7-8 rock chips develop. None of my cars have ever developed chips on doors, so I chose not to ppf the doors... Well now I have half a dozen chips on the front doors at 10k mi. I opened the passenger door in my garage and BARELY bumped into some lacquered oak, and the edge of the door chipped a solid inch down to the metal. My glass is peppered to no end after a few track days and looks like glass you'd find on a racecar that has done 100k track miles. My actual racecar that had 40k+ track miles has glass in better shape. The other day someone changed lanes on a freshly half paved road in front of me, and a rock flew up that actually took a 1/4" chunk out of the entire top layer of my glass, down to the laminate.

Oh, the caliper paint is also bad... Mine have chips everywhere. A few are from me using a hammer to get the pins in and out, but most just appeared out of nowhere. The wheel paint on both bronze and grey is also known to chip and flake if you sneeze near it.

I just don't get it. If you dig through my build thread you'll find I measured the paint with a proper measuring device and it varies across panels and the whole car much more than any other vehicle I've ever owned. Some panels have as much as 2mil of variation!!! That's awful for a brand new car with no body work.

Agree on all of the chipping crap. Brake calipers especially. Just a minor bump will do it. FWIW, the Apex rims are also this way. They just get beat to hell easily.

Had my windshield replaced yesterday after a chunk of concrete bounced off the top of an Elantra ahead of me getting on the highway.

$2.5k for OEM Glass with $50 deductible through Travelers, my insurance agent told me to send the claim to my dealer group's glass repair center instead of Safelite and they were able to get the windshield in 2 days and had the job done in 4 hours.

Only downside is this new glass is so clean and clear, it's kinda sad knowing it'll probably pick up the same number of chips in another 8k miles.

Good info, thank you. I'm also on travelers... I have 3 cars with windshields that need replacing. 😣 The Integra has the least miles (12k vs 45k and 80k) but has the most amount of pits and chips.

Travelers made things really easy. Made the claim on their website, selected the repair facility I wanted, then the dealer called me to make an appointment the next day.

My experience these past two weeks should be a good data point for anyone in this situation.

On 8/21 driving on NYC highways a random pebble audibly SMACKS my windshield. I immediately notice a quarter sized spiderweb crack at HUD level about four inches from the drivers A pillar - directly in line of view. Before I reach my destination about five miles away, an approximately 15 inch crack develops, reaching toward the center of the windshield. My car has less than 6k miles. I’m UPSET

Glass Claim through GEICO, “covered” - $0 deductible.

Make an appointment through my local Safelite shop. They say they cannot do a mobile service in my driveway because calibration of the safety sensors need to be done in their facility. I’ve had experience with a mobile windshield replacement on my MK7 GTI years ago and I had zero complaints so I was hopeful that this would be another seamless experience.

Morning of appointment I go in and ask the manager kid at the front desk what are the chances I’m getting OEM glass. He was really nice and explains Geico won’t approve OEM glass and aftermarket glass was gonna be used. Below is the invoice for, and a picture of the replacement. Done in 70 minutes and I’m not happy with the results.

The HUD was distorted and slightly tilted clockwise. When I pick my head up about six inches, it seems to contort back to looking more normal. There is a terrible vibration in the glass at around 3300 rpm 100% of the time with an audible rattle sound.

I complain to previously mentioned manager kid and he agrees to file a grievance with Geico. He takes pictures and says he’ll escalate and ask for OEM glass. Next day he calls me back and says Geico agrees to provide OEM glass and he makes a new appointment to install new OEM windshield and take back the old aftermarket glass.

Fast forward to today I get my OEM glass installed, it takes double the amount of time and upon return to me I immediately notice the difference. The main complaint the vibration and rattle are gone. Driving with both windshields back to back I can confidently say that the OEM glass has some acoustic/NVH blocking characteristics. Cabin is notably quieter. Also the HUD display seems to be 99% back to normal. I still see a slight tilt but idk if it’s daytime sun hiding imperfection in display or I’m imagining it.
overall very happy with my experience with this specific location and staff. They got the results I wanted. I shall monitor the next few days and report back. Here’s a pic of the new invoice; according to the paperwork parts and labor is more than double the price of the aftermarket glass.

Had to get mine replaced today through Safelite and got the same glass you got the first time. Unfortunately I have a lot of the same issues with the HUD seeming crooked and blurry (Hard to explain but if was 3d it seems like the bottom right corner is farther away "tilting" the display back/down) Cabin noise seems to be significantly louder as well while driving. The only difference is I don't think I had any increase to the vibration in the car at a given rpm but it may be hard to tell for sure. Hoping I can get a hold of them tomorrow and request oem glass as well.

Idk if its the curvature of the glass being different causing the issues with the hud but I figured I'd second your issues in case someone was considering a replacement with this glass out of pocket. Everyone I know used Safelite never had issues but going forward I'd probably just go through the dealer when it inevitably cracks again

I give up. Can't keep this car in nice shape no matter how hard I try to avoid damage on my commute.
i feel that. i went through this on my last car- my '15 Si. I used to wash it and love it every week and all that, but a couple years in i was on the interstate headed to work and i think an actual bolt came out of a truck and slammed into my hood at 80 miles per hour, leaving a huge golf-ball sized dent in it and fucking the paint in that spot. i stopped giving a shit about my car after that lol i basically stopped washing it because i was so over it. when i traded it in for this car, the first thing i did when i got it from the dealership was to take it to a PPF shop for a whole wrap.

it also helps being able to work fully remote so i dont have to drive every day or during rush hour.

Had my windshield replaced by same glass as OEM, but not bought from the dealer. And I was the same HUD distortion (looks blurry as if I needed glasses). But as soon as I move my head just a little bit down, it seems OK. Seems to me that the glass placement i very, very important on the ITS and as soon as it is not completely at the right place, you'll have the blurry HUD problem.

Ended up turning the HUD off because it was bothering me too much to see it that way.

Call that shop back and tell them. Hopefully they do the same for you and replace it with OEM glass.
Today the glass is holding strong and I have no issues.
