No not at all. I dont go there anymore.
I see the advantage of having better mid and better top end. At the cost of a little lag. The k20c1 can’t take too much tq in the lower rpm’s without the rods un-rodding themselves

think stage 2 turbo(or even the stock unit). The one that’s slightly larger than the stock one. Add fuel upgrades. Delete the cat or go high flow cat. E85 tune. That kind of tq down low is something the stock rods can’t take. Sadly

would’ve been nice to have either forged rods. Or even stronger rods that aren’t forged but can take a greater amount of tq and (modded)abuse.

I stand by what I said. Respectfully of course cuz I’m not trying to be a bitch. The ea888 gen 3 and 4 are truly the modern day k engine. Hell, the 5th gen is literally going to have a variable geometry turbo. I have a vgt on my 2025 s5. It’s fucking outstanding. If you’re near Denver we can meet at a parking lot and U can drive the s5 so U can feel it. It is freaking amazing

never tuned a k20c1 but have seen pics of the tables. It seems like it’s tq based (fucking finally) instead of boost based. Reminds me of how the Germans do it
I am with you on the rods being a weak point (and needing to be mindful re: when you request torque with the stock turbo), but even the MHI stage 2 you referenced (which is, to my knowledge, the smallest aftermarket option for this platform) won't start to spool until between 3.5k and 4k rpm (assuming a stock head), which is generally considered safe for higher torque requests on this motor. So, you shouldn't need to tune in "fake lag" to avoid a low rpm torque hit with it.

A turbo swap on this platform generally helps to solve -- actually it doesn't solve it, more so it works around it -- the weak rod problem, as opposed to creating or emphasizing it, which is how I had interpreted your earlier comment.

VGTs are awesome!

Was showing my 4 year old grand son the Air Force’s a10. Explained how it’s the most American plane in the arsenal. Bitch is just a gun with wings. He said “wow that’s fucking cool” and then had to plea with the mf to stop swearing. Went in the type s. Got some ice cream with em. Moose tracks continues to be undefeated

came back home. Bday party. Dunno how old I am. I stopped counting after I was legally able to buy liquor. Plus I ain’t no bitch. Counting is suspiciously metric….. and centimeters never made it to the moon. 😤

See that’s what I’ve figured. But according to what I’ve read. Going high flow or catless dp = spools a hair too fast. That’s just what I’ve read. I can call my homie at pfi and ask but for the most part I’ve no experience with that turbos spool time on stock dp vs aftermarket.

but yes. Something like a kuru introduces enough lag on its own. That much I know.

Just to be the nitpicky a hole...

Have to point out that a turbo moving the peak torque range up in the rpm band is not "lag". That's increasing turbo threshold.

Lag is the effect of throttle input with the foot to boost building response. Twin scroll is just more immediate so it builds boost sooner with less lag. At the expense of running out of velocity/friction at higher volumes.

You typically negatively effect lag (increase it) by oversizing a turbo which takes longer to get over the initial boost build from pure volume, by increasing piping length between the turbo and engine, by increasing intercooler volume, or by tuning.

Tldr:
Turbo threshold is the rpm at which peak boost/torque comes on

Turbo lag is how long it takes to build boost after your foot presses on the throttle <- this is why enthusiasts prefer NA > Supercharged > twin charged > turbocharged

Bro I’m at the airport. Crazy mf next to me has been singing Rick Ross none stop. He’s hitting every syllable too. Bout to go buy a jbl from the electronics stand for him. Mf is doing his thing

I just hope he doesn’t sit next to me on the plane.

OMW to Pensacola. Nephew is graduating a-school tomorrow.

flight attendant must’ve been like. Oh he’s singing Rick Ross. He’s definitely going to Florida. No need to check for a ticket.

Had a twincharged ion redline. Never again

Nephew graduated a-school. Very proud of em

his civilian instructor remembered me.

“didn’t U take part in operation phantom fury? OMG you’re the guy that always whipped his dick out for the female a10 pilots!”

“the second the a10 was coming up with bombs, if the voice on comms was female. This mf was out there flashing them “

it was something to do. Boys will be boys and all that.

what a small world man. Gonna grab a beer with em later.

saw double apex for the first time today. It’s really nice in person

Interesting. What rating? Assuming Corry Station (but actually the NAS is there and your comments about the A10 so possibly aviation)?

- Former CT M branch > CTN (don't ask me what CTNs are called these days).
