Hi guys! Got a question

I was googling and researching earlier today. Are the fl5 and de5 wheels flow formed?

I ask because the wheel weight seems suspiciously light for a 19x9x5

about half of the sources online state they are and the other half say they aren’t with Google ai giving me both options depending on how I phrase the question.

besides the weight being a tip. I also have two more clues that make me believe they are flow formed

1) the edge of the barrel isn’t stamped with a reverse mount warning. Can’t do that on a flow formed barrel

2) in Denver I hit a mega pot hole. Blew out my continental tires in the front. Both of them. Both tires popped right at the sidewall. Yet both wheels didn’t bend at all. On low speed and high speed balancing machine. With new tires on. They balanced perfectly. At s point, front alignment was perfect and including my eyes. 5 sets of eyes have called both wheels “not bent”

thnx if U can help!

My understanding is they are flow formed.

Weird, I had the exact same thing happen to me and my contis right before Christmas travel! My wheels also look ok.

They are flow formed wheels made by enkei using their MAT process. Enkei and MAT are stamped on the back of the spokes.

Conti side wall caps aren’t very robust. This kind of damage guarantees those blow outs and have for years. To be fair to conti I should’ve been paying attention

in my defense. I dropped my kid off at meps. He took his oath. And he shipped out. I was driving with tears in my eyes. I was distracted and I should’ve just pulled over and regained my composure

I’ll say this. My old as4’s and cup2’s and 4s’s would’ve tanked that pot hole. For sure. Even the Indy 500’s would’ve survived

I've said it before and I said it again... Only ONE manufacturer makes a car that's TRULY track ready out of the box... Porsche. Hate them or like them... They're unboxed and ready and the dealer not only won't yell at you for tracking it, but will probably thank you and give you extra business cards.
Definitely agreed, but also that's all part of the plan. There are only two types of Porsche owners- "lifers" who literally keep their cars for life, or serial P car buyers whose average ownership period is between 6-24 months.

The last thing they want to do is give people a bad experience by refusing a warranty claim because someone used the car for exactly the reason they bought it for. Also they're engineered well enough to where that doesn't happen very often.

edit: one more thing- maintenance actually isn't all that bad. If you service through a dealer sure, it can get eye-wateringly painful but there are plenty of indy service shops who specialize in Porsche maintenance throughout the country that can ease that pain to a much more tolerable level- and reliability is really S tier (rare exceptions like the notorious "IMS bearing" but these are overblown and easily avoided).

The only thing you truly need to watch out for are carbon ceramic brakes. Those will destroy your soul if you buy used around 60k+ miles, may as well budget swapping to steel brakes immediately.

For the record though, you will not find a mid-engine Porsche with ceramic brakes in the US. The 718 4 bangers are among the absolute best value sports cars available. But last I checked people are catching on and the market is starting to stiffen up. That said, if you can grab a 718 turbo 4 (I'd try to find one with the 2.5 although the non-GTS ones have heating issues on track) for less than $45k or so, I can't think of a better way to spend that money.

how do you like the RMM? I’m debating which one to get.

Love it! I read a ton of reviews before going with Wunderladen... It makes shifts feel crisper and I did not notice any real extra vibrations either. Glad I went with them and would do it again. Hopes this helps.

Installed the Acuity shift boot collar upgrade in preparation for an aftermarket shift knob sometime in the future.
