Acura Integra Type S - Different Modes and Gas IMG_3577

Hello - I was just curious as to what you guys daily drive in the type s: I have my individual settings set to -
Engine - Sport +
Steering - Sport
Suspension - Comfort
Gauge - Sport +

I was wondering if this was ok to daily or if I should be in all comfort for the most part. Mainly curious about mileage with the engine in sport plus versus comfort. I like the exhaust noise in Sport + so have been keeping it that way for the most part but occasionally switch to comfort on long drives.

Seems like a popular combination, I run it myself.

As for Sport+ versus Comfort with respect to fuel milage, my take on it is that cruising along backroads or steadily on the highway, it doesn't matter what engine mode you are in. In traffic however it makes a heck of a big difference when clutching it and out and accelerating from a stop. Sure you can finess the accelerator to make it not as bad but the throttle mapping on comfort just makes it that much easier on the fuel consumption that any time I hit moderate traffic I switch to Comfort unless I'm in the mood to hear the pops and bangs.

I think ideal shift points and staying out of boost will make the difference

due to the pops in sport plus. I think that’s the exception. I’m sure those pops are costing us extra gas. šŸ˜‚
I've never seen a comprehensive description of the Sport Plus setting. The info I have found indicates that the resonators are bypassed in the Plus setting, directing more flow through the central passage, which you can see by the valve action in the different settings. My guess, any reduction in gas mileage might be more the result of the more aggressive throttle mapping, and our inclination to take advantage of it in the Plus setting. It would be interesting to know, but since the exhaust is not a stand-alone setting, it would be difficult to determine.

The valve is open in sport too

Half open.
Semantics brostopher

path of least resistance = vast majority of the exhaust, its energy and its pulses are coming out the middle. Half open should’ve been full open

in sport and at wide open is the only time when the back pressure from the half open valve forces some into the side mufflers.

edit. Forgot to hit this with an uwu

sorry about that

ahem

Since getting the borla exhaust and tuning (I actually had my tuner close the valve more in sport than stock, but fully open above a certain rpm and load) my individual settings are,
Engine - sport (sport+ for track use)
Steering - sport (comfort for track use)
Suspension - comfort (sport or sport+ on track)
Gauges - sport+ all the time

95% of the time I'm in comfort.

Sport+ definitely eats more fuel as it needs to drip some fuel into the exhaust to make the bang noise. The sound you hear is the combustion of fuel that's sprayed and pushed into the hot turbo and cat. Yes it will cause a bit accelerated wear on certain parts, but not to the point you'd probably be concerned.

Oh forgot to mention my individual mode set up

Engine - sport plus
Steering - sport plus
Suspension - sport
Gauges - sport plus (I really like that yellow needle LOL)

I ride in straight comfort mode till the radiator temp gauge shows me that 4th dash mark. Then I go into individual. I only go sport plus when I’m on the highway and have to lose a race šŸ˜‚ or when I’m with friends on the fun roads

I'm nearly always in comfort...but did some tests an got the best economy when driving super gentle in sport plus but there was some vibration that didnt agree with my daily aches an pains...got it up to 27 with mixed driving. I'm between 22 an 24 mpg in comfort

Yeah gas mileage in the its is so variable for me. I've never gotten above 26 consistently unless doing like 60mph with no wind. The problem is doing 70mph+ puts you in boost range so any resistance and it eats fuel. I get better mileage in an X7 šŸ™ƒ.

I get significantly better mileage since I stopped using the smart cruise, though. Way, way better experience with cruise when I learned you can turn off the tracking crap, because the logic is programmed very poorly.
