Integra Type-S Expansion tank failure.

Mine is currently at the dealership, they didn't want me driving it, but didn't have a loaner so I had to drive it for a few more days before they got one back. Part was backordered I was told, should be arriving on the 15th.

Aww man. How long have you been waiting for the part? And did they know if the new part actually had the problem fixed?

About 2 weeks now, im just glad DRob noticed it when I took the car for him to unlock. Literally had 1k miles on it and he popped the hood and was like there's a big smell of coolant here and it was all over the back of the reservoir. I had read the post about it like days before and probably wouldn't have checked for a while since ya know new car and all.

I have no idea if the new one is "fixed" or if the issue will reoccur. I certainly hope not but I'll be more diligent about it.

Dang glad you found it early. I got 5k on my car and found the problem a few days ago and my reservoir is basically empty. I’m hoping that there was still enough coolant for the engine all this time.

Are these failing expansion tanks typically on earlier/launch models before a certain build date? I wonder if maybe there was a bad batch or if a revised part number has come out since then. I haven't checked mine yet, but I'll try to remember to tonight and I'll report back here with build date too.

They've been failing since FK8s and Honda has been replacing with the same part. People get confused on why they haven't updated or improved the part and the answer is what it always is, money. Likely only happens to a small percentage of vehicles. Replacement part is cheap.

The solution is also simple. For folks that constantly worry about this be proactive and buy an aftermarket unit that works best. Keeping in mind Radium seems to have whatever gasket issue and Mishimoto isn't known to make spectacular products.

If you drive frequently and have the 'if it happens then it happens' attitude then carry on.

Oh wow didn’t know they’ve been failing since the FK8. My dealer did say there wasn’t a new part number and that they just ordered me the same one. So I guess I’ll just pray it works this time.

I don't mean on this expansion tank just in general. If I had to choose it would be theirs.

I ordered a back-up stock one, will just keep it in the house in case I need it. Also ordered Honda Coolant so I'm ready to top it off if necessary. Just for insurance.

Since I do track it, I will bring the back-up with me in case I have to change it on the spot.

Of course, it's likely not in stock as there's been no movement on my order in the past 5 or 6 days since I ordered it.

Did you get a CEL when it failed? (Maybe loss of pressure or something?)

Or did you just get lucky and check? i.e. how did you find out? Thinking this is something we should be on the lookout for.

I'm 1600 miles in and didn't want to worry if it will fail or not and replaced with the Mishimoto aluminum one.
