Integra Type-S Expansion tank failure.

I found a potentially cheap fix to the issue for anyone daring enough to do so:

Did you get a CEL when it failed? (Maybe loss of pressure or something?)

Or did you just get lucky and check? i.e. how did you find out? Thinking this is something we should be on the lookout for.

I didn’t get a CEL or any indication that anything was wrong. The car seemed to run fine. Coolant temp didn’t get to any worrisome levels. I found the problem because I found coolant on my garage floor. I saw someone else mentioned they happened to smell the coolant. By the time I found the problem, my whole reservoir was empty.

I think I mentioned that I ordered another OEM tank a bit ago. Just wanted to have it on hand in case. So far no issues, but only 2k miles on the car. I think the OEM one was maybe 1/2 the cost of the Mishimoto. Probably took 3 or 4 weeks to arrive.

Yes sort of. At this point neither are defective, and it's not 100% that they ever will be. I'm guessing that the failure rate is less than 5% for this part, otherwise they would actually do something about it.

The extra tank is just insurance so to speak.

I put epoxy (Gorilla Glue) on mine a month ago.
Will that help?

It's the FK8 tank. It fits the ITS directly.

It only took a few days to ship from Pennsylvania to California. The install itself took like 20 minutes since I drained the plastic tank with a syringe.

I used hose clamps to use on the hoses. I didn't know if the angled or straight ones would work better so I got both. The straight ones work fine if you want to save a little money on these.

Don't forget to get some coolant, just in case. I didn't reuse the coolant I sucked out and a quart is plenty if you didn't spill a lot out of the hoses. Using the hose clamps makes this so much easier.

The hose clamps prevent coolant from spilling when you detach the hoses (top and bottom). You'll still have residual coolant in the tank but you can tape the top port closed and just lay a towel under the lower hose port of the tank when disconnecting. If you sucked out most of the coolant, there won't be much dripping out of it.

Just bought the FK8 mishimoto off of Amazon for 259 + tax. Cheapest around. Plus got it in 2 days now I have a weekend project

They've been failing since FK8s and Honda has been replacing with the same part. People get confused on why they haven't updated or improved the part and the answer is what it always is, money. Likely only happens to a small percentage of vehicles. Replacement part is cheap.

The solution is also simple. For folks that constantly worry about this be proactive and buy an aftermarket unit that works best. Keeping in mind Radium seems to have whatever gasket issue and Mishimoto isn't known to make spectacular products.

If you drive frequently and have the 'if it happens then it happens' attitude then carry on.

Can you expand on the gasket issue? I hadn't heard of this, and I'm not getting results when I go looking.
