Congrats! If I didn’t already have my LC the m8 comp or amg gt would have been my next choice. my dad is a master auto body tech of 40 years. He says right now, bmw makes some of the best built cars, can’t speak to reliability tho. I did notice you had quite a bit of gripes with the ITS. It simply isn’t the car for you, I ‘spose.

@optronix I am a Serial Car Hopper and would love to stop long enough to have to renew a set of tabs on a car. The DE5 was a blast to drive in the Summer and with the Artwork V2 spoiler I put on it looked the part. For those that have said it gives a great driving experience they aren't wrong. 320 HP doesn't sound like a lot these days, but it was definitely enough to get around and is no slouch in the acceleration department.
I did really have a great time getting the exhaust to pop at 4k RPM's too. But it just didn't do it for me in the end. :(

I think anyone content with an automatic at all is better off looking elsewhere, honestly. I'd almost surely have an RS3 or actually probably a Giulia Quadrifoglio if the manual wasn't a prerequisite.

The Cadillac Blackwings always get brought up in comparison, and for good reason. But I can't reconcile the cost difference, plus I just personally have a bad taste in my mouth from GM products as a whole.

BMW M is always interesting and I've owned my share but I haven't liked the direction they've taken since the G chassis cars debuted. I've thought they were too big and overpriced since the F chassis, but I still loved the way they looked. Now the focus seems to be on power (to offset the weight) and that's not as interesting to me. And with a face only a mother could love. I think they peaked at the F87 M2CS, and if I had actually found a good example of one when I was in the market I'd quite possibly may still have it... but probably not because I can't fit my dog in it.

Call me elitist, but I don't really acknowledge the non-M cars. I don't even know anything about the M850i, I can't be bothered to look. They don't meet the bar for me personally as an actual enthusiast car, so they're as interesting to me as a washing machine. I'm not even trying to throw shade, it's just objective fact. I don't see too many people cross-shopping those with an ITS. I'm sure it has a nice interior though.

To each their own. I'm curious what "changes" are coming with the new facelift for the ITS.

I actually replaced my FL5 with my Giulia QV. It is by far one of the best cars i've ever owned and would probably still have it if the dealer network near me didn't close down. It is a car i'll own again - '2024 in Verde Montreal would be my wish list.

This is a very valid point- the dealer network is hilarious, and they don't necessarily have the greatest reputation for reliability. I'd pass this off as hearsay, but I saw it personally- the ONE TIME I saw a Q4 during a track event, and it literally broke down and had to be towed home. I don't know what actually went wrong with it but there was a lot of smoke involved and I don't think those engines are cheap.

I love the idea of it though and I'm sure they're great to drive.

They sound sooo good. Very Italian.

I've also seen one come out and blow up. White smoke everywhere so probably something dealing with coolant or issues at the head. The owner knew nothing. He was in an intermediate group (so doing self tech without an instructor) and when I looked over his car later there were a multitude of issues that should have kept him off track (brake fluid brown, pads fairly low, harness bar, terrible tire edge wear). He's been back since, but now in a GR 86. He said the Giulia was the biggest mistake he ever made, but also the car he misses the most 😅.

Knowing the sum of the issues you felt, I can understand. I still go back and forth on mine.

Despite how bloated and soft the recent bimmers have become, they make incredibly good daily drivers. The tech, maturity, and quality of our X7 blows a lot of cars out of the water. The fact it drives like a medium sedan is wild.

Enjoy the new car!
my dad is a master auto body tech of 40 years. He says right now, bmw makes some of the best built cars today. He never talks about the engines though as he is not a mechanic.

I think Ferrari had a hand during early development and then Alfa finished the motor work! I dont remember the exact details.

Oh yeah. I think Ferrari handled the aero and chopped off a cylinder per bank on their tt v8 for the Alfa too. They also did the tuning for it and the auto trans too.

Yeah ferrari had the early hand and it's totally derived from a Ferrari engine from what I've seen... Then again so are several Maserati and they're the worst vehicles made today imo.

The current bmw b58 is a monster engine. I've seen people pushing 700whp ON TRACK with the stock bottom end and a fairly minimal amount of modifications... And keep doing it over and over.

I can't fault the X7 we just bought. The sprint feature is impressive given the power and weight. Build quality is nuts. All the panel gaps are roughly the same and the biggest ones are 1/4 the size of the biggest ones I found on my parents mdx or my its. The bmw seats though... Chef's kiss🧑‍🍳

In my experience as an owner a 2019 Giulia QV, they are pretty solid if you buy a 2018+ car. i've been very involved in the owners group and rarely do folks have issues. The one big issue with the car is vampire drain on the battery. Early cars were notorious for this. If you drive the car often and keep it on the tender, it is not a big issue.

the car itself had unbelievable steering (steering rack was very quick too) and the motor was fantastic. It was just an event to drive. The big maintenance issue was the serpentine belt that needs to be done every 3 or so years. Replacement is very costly.

Most of us still have extended warranty on the car through the manufacturer which can still be bought, so big issues are not a big deal with warranty. My issue is the dealer near me closed (but a new one opened up 45 mins away from me) My car never had a single warranty issue, but the "what if?" loomed over my head, and I don't want to have to deal with a dealer so far from me. I decided to get out while I had all my fun, but I still think about the car often and will definitely get another one.
