Hey everyone! I just picked up this Borla cat-back second-hand over the weekend and made a comparison video. One thing to note, I didn't realize until removing the stock exhaust, but the previous owner had actually done a resonator delete already. So the "before" clips are with the factory muffler and no resonator.

It is hard, as always, to convey truly what it sounds like over video. I tried my best to keep conditions, location of the camera and location of the decibel meter consistent to make it as representative as possible. Even still, there are some subtleties to the Borla that don't show up on camera.
  • The actual decibel reading is higher in all scenarios, somewhere in the 3-5 range in most cases. It is definitely noticeably louder in person than before, in basically every scenario.
  • The "Comfort" mode with Borla is roughly equivalent, if not slightly quieter than, stock "Sport". Comfort would not stand out in traffic as being aftermarket or obnoxious.
  • "Sport" and "Sport+" with Borla are loud, and not only loud, but the tone is more penetrating to the ear. Around 3K rpm, it has some serious drone. Thankfully, that is not a place you spend much time unless you cruise at 100mph.
  • The actual sound is very appealing, though. I think it is loud but not obnoxious, befitting a sports car yet still refined. Again, it's hard to tell in the video, but there is a difference in tone that I think is an improvement.
Cosmetically, the larger center pipe is growing on me. I like the overall look. The install was also rather simple, the hardest part was just getting the stock front-pipe bolts off. I did it with a buddy in under 2 hours lying on the ground with the car on jack stands. I bet if we had a lift this could be a one-hour job.

Anyways, see video below. Let me know if you have other questions about it!

Sounds great. Very helpful video!

I believe this is the same system that the Type S TCR car runs and good god it sounds amazing. It’s very loud on the TCR car, but not sure what is done to the engine. It gives the car a super throaty sound.

Throaty is a good way to describe it. It feels louder but also a lot deeper in pitch. My wife said she likes it because it isn't as "harsh" as my previous car, which was a resonator deleted S550 5.0.

I read that it’s a 3ā€ borla on the tcr? Literally the same set up as the 2.75ā€ but piping is 3ā€?

Good video sir! Would you mind sharing who you got it from? Sold one about a month or two ago to someone in the PNW, wonder if he got rid of it already.

It was from someone in VA who had recently sold his car. I think he had it for almost a year.

I love mine. There's just so much warmth in the valve closed setting that makes it fun to drive around all the time.

I had my tuner change how much the valve opens in sport and now the helmholtz cancels that 3.2k rpm vtec rasp. Still gets the loudness, and then open up above 5k to wide open. Still wide open in sport+ so it's still raspy there, but that's intentional.

Glad to hear someone else is enjoying theirs!

Neat. If I ever get it tuned, I’ll have to look into that!

I like my Invidia Q300, but this Borla sounds better in every single video. I may swap eventually.

Same. Liked my q300. Didn’t love it till I had the res swapped for a fluid motor union 3ā€ in and out megaphone. Sounds amazing now

Been thinking about swapping the dp. Gonna have to definitely add a resonator post megaphone now

but as is, the borla is hard to beat in terms of sound, volume and texture. Little too hot in comfort imo but how it sounds with the valve open makes up for that

I have the Borla as well! When it was first installed I had a TSP downpipe and in sport+ it was soooo boomy. Went back to the OEM downpipe then replaced the ā€œresonatorā€ with an Aero Exhaust AR series resonator. It’s at a good place now. Still a little boomy in sport+ between 3-4K rpm, but overall it’s good!

Sounds good, I just wished more companies sold a dual-exit. I still do not love the triple-exit look.

I so wish the Remark titanium dual exit was available for the De5...
