Well these windshield's are made of paper apparently. Had a very minor rock hit (probably only about .060" in diameter) and now I have another crack splintered out from the drivers side about 5" after having it replaced with the factory Acura glass not but 2 months ago.

I give up. Can't keep this car in nice shape no matter how hard I try to avoid damage on my commute.

My tint guys install and xpel ppf-like material on windshields I’d say look into that if the roads by you are particular rocky or debris ridden. I’m sorry you’ve had so much bad luck with this ?

Yeah I contemplated it back a few months ago but i've seen a lot of hit or miss reviews on the clarity and other issues with it. Might have to bit the bullet after it get it replaced this next time.

I liken a ppf windshield to a heated windshield. While 99% of people will never notice the refraction and glare that results, if you are part of that 1% it's an absolute dealbreaker. Driving at night becomes very annoying to almost unbearable depending on the lighting conditions.

Yeah my other worry was the how it would work with the HUD since the windshield has that special layer in there for it.

That won't make a difference. The layer for the hud is inside the glass so placing something behind it won't be super noticeable. People also tint their windshields (the illegal way) and only report the hud being brighter. If the ppf has a slight yellow or blue tint, you might be able to pick up on the hud reflective surface more easily, but if you can't already see it then you likely won't notice.

Hello everyone! Correct me if I am writing this message in the wrong place. I want to know if anyone has had experience installing a Fuyao windshield? According to the information I found, it is of good quality and is not inferior to the original. Even the one that designed for HUD technology

It's the same brand as OE I think. You can look at your OE windshield for the brand, it is written on it in small prints.

Also think this is exactly what I got when replacing mine. Problem I have is that the HUD is now blurry, so I don't use it anymore. Might be just that the windshield is a bit off because when I move a bit around, HUD becomes clear. So might be the installation...

Decided not to bother about it. Paid around 1k $ with calibration vs 4.5k $ at the dealer. Dealers are crazy in Canada...

I was quoted 2500$ for oem windshield (not from dealer and not oe). Supposedly they recalibrate the HUD as well... Still haven't done it. I have somewhere between 1500 and 25000 rock chips, and I'm just waiting for one to spread so insurance will replace rather than patch.

I have seen the Fuyao name on a few windshields that were oe. Supposedly there is a difference in the lines they produce between oe and oem. For one of our Audis without a HUD, the oe glass is triple pane Fuyao. The oem Fuyao replacement is double pane and louder in cabin as a result. All of the HUD audi and bmw I've looked at the markings for have been made by pilkington.

I don't believe there's anything special about the its glass, so the only real concern would be the driver assistance and HUD realignment. I believe they also have to do a wheel alignment prior to the driver assistance alignment to ensure it's done "correctly"

Just read something similar on the Civic forums which is making me think I may need to look into insurance covering this...

I also had a rock hit on a car about 6 years ago that initially didn't show up until I came back about 3-4 hours later. The car was sitting out in the sun so it had time to develop a nice disappointing surprise when I got back.
If you have comprehensive coverage, it should cover windshield damage, less your deductible. Once, I had to pay extra to get an OEM windshield. I probably could have gotten it covered, but I didn't notice that detail until the insurance company had issued the check, so I didn't fight it. I have read that some companies offer specific "full glass coverage" insurance. I'm not sure of the terms, maybe there is no deductible.

It depends on the state and insurance. Definitely check with your agent.

I found out recently (because of a rock chip I was looking to cover) that my coverage had everything except for glass. Not sure why the agent had left it off (and the agency said they'd never know as she left a year later). I added it on for 12$/year per car. Has it's own "zero deductible" and isn't treated as comprehensive.

Without glass, you're right comprehensive would still cover it, but you must pay the standard deductible and rates can go up. So for glass alone it may not be worth it.

When I had state farm they covered glass separately but for some reason they reported it to the dmv as "weather related claim". I had two chips in two weeks. First was legit. I swear the second was crappy safelite install and torsional stress that cracked it, but whatever. This royally messed up my insurance and my rates doubled. I eventually had to work with an independent agent and the dmv to have that removed from the record.

My experience these past two weeks should be a good data point for anyone in this situation.

On 8/21 driving on NYC highways a random pebble audibly SMACKS my windshield. I immediately notice a quarter sized spiderweb crack at HUD level about four inches from the drivers A pillar - directly in line of view. Before I reach my destination about five miles away, an approximately 15 inch crack develops, reaching toward the center of the windshield. My car has less than 6k miles. I’m UPSET

Glass Claim through GEICO, “covered” - $0 deductible.

Make an appointment through my local Safelite shop. They say they cannot do a mobile service in my driveway because calibration of the safety sensors need to be done in their facility. I’ve had experience with a mobile windshield replacement on my MK7 GTI years ago and I had zero complaints so I was hopeful that this would be another seamless experience.

Morning of appointment I go in and ask the manager kid at the front desk what are the chances I’m getting OEM glass. He was really nice and explains Geico won’t approve OEM glass and aftermarket glass was gonna be used. Below is the invoice for, and a picture of the replacement. Done in 70 minutes and I’m not happy with the results.

The HUD was distorted and slightly tilted clockwise. When I pick my head up about six inches, it seems to contort back to looking more normal. There is a terrible vibration in the glass at around 3300 rpm 100% of the time with an audible rattle sound.

I complain to previously mentioned manager kid and he agrees to file a grievance with Geico. He takes pictures and says he’ll escalate and ask for OEM glass. Next day he calls me back and says Geico agrees to provide OEM glass and he makes a new appointment to install new OEM windshield and take back the old aftermarket glass.

Fast forward to today I get my OEM glass installed, it takes double the amount of time and upon return to me I immediately notice the difference. The main complaint the vibration and rattle are gone. Driving with both windshields back to back I can confidently say that the OEM glass has some acoustic/NVH blocking characteristics. Cabin is notably quieter. Also the HUD display seems to be 99% back to normal. I still see a slight tilt but idk if it’s daytime sun hiding imperfection in display or I’m imagining it.
overall very happy with my experience with this specific location and staff. They got the results I wanted. I shall monitor the next few days and report back. Here’s a pic of the new invoice; according to the paperwork parts and labor is more than double the price of the aftermarket glass.

I got the Pilkington glass and my HUD is slightly tilted now too. I thought it was my imagination at first. It is also ever so slightly blurry. Honestly it doesn't bother me enough to complain and have it redone. I prefer to leave well enough alone. I haven't noticed any more noise or rattling though. Although I don't drive the car daily. Also, I'm going to continue tracking the car so I figure it will get broken again.

At the cost of this windshield, you could do a tear off or windshield ppf and be better off longer term.
