Ok, actual question: has anyone ever had a warranty claim denied just because of the jailbroken ECU? Or are people very diligent about having a cloned ECU to swap in for warranty work?

Not on this platform, but I've seen it on others for people. The dealer WANTS the labor and warranty work. They make money off of it, and easy money at that. It's not in their interest to flag you. The only time I've seen it even be a problem on the vag platforms was when someone came in being intentionally shady and talking trash at the service reps and techs.

That said, if you have an overheating issue, water pump issue, or a blown head gasket and you come in with an aftermarket coolant tank, you're more likely to get flagged and have them blame that than the jailbreak. They'd have to actually scan your ecu and go look for the reflash flag and counter to determine you're jailbroken, and unless there's a reason for them to do that it's unlikely they will.

Risk v reality and all.

I’ve seen it on a ton of cars but my goodness. It was basically people modding their shit. Driving and abusing their power train. And then having the nerve to tell the dealer “I dunno how that happened”

I literally blew up my srt4’s motor. But since I wasn’t a bitch the dealer helped me save a ton on the labor to repair the motor.

also. Bring the techs/mechanics gatorades, donuts etc. that greases the wheel. Never know when that comes back and bites U in the ass in a good way.

I have had 20+ cars in 30 years and have never blown up a motor or ruined a transmission (despite some of them being heavily modified)... although my B5 S4 was a fucking pain in the ass. I play it really safe with the mods and let other folks blaze the trail ahead of me. So, I'm not trying to scam Acura while building out a dyno queen, I'm just trying to get an idea of how pedantic they are about something like a jailbroken ECU if I take it in for something that isn't my fault. It **sounds** like they probably don't care if it's reasonable. I'd be suprised if I put more than 2,000 miles on this car per year.

If you have an aftermarket intake, they're not going to warranty most engine related things because of risk. And they shouldn't.

They'll still warranty your creaky seat or a blown strut though. It's in their interest not to turn you away in that instance.

I'm not saying they'll go out of the way to warranty your diff if they know you're tuned.

I’ve seen them successfully play the “oooops sorry about that” card many times. If they get caught they can definitely get punished by losing special allocations
