Dude. F’n really. 2025 ITS not even 3000 miles wife coming back from Kohls. Hit a pothole. Like 5 minutes up the street. She swears up and down it was in the parking lot going slow. 20 to 30. But dang man looks like the actual rim is what sliced the sidewall of the tire. Obviously the pothole F’d up the rim. So that’s nice. Serenity now!!

New tire time! Exactly what happened to me a while back. They were at nearly 30k already and I hated the oem tires so I went with dws06+ with a bigger sidewall.

Reason 101 why these silly 30 profile tires suck. Car ought to have 17 inch wheels and 40 or 45 profile tires. Another example of boy racer form over function.

I will be the outlier here....
That is a curb. Your wife hit a curb.... or a very uneven part of the road.

You should have rash on the inside of the wheel too if it was a pothole big enough to do that.

Not really. Many potholes are large enough to damage only one side of the wheel. I speak from experience. But, had it been a more reasonable profile tire, she might have had no damage! When you're essentially riding on the rims, there is little margin for minimal damage.

Have the rim spun before you put a new tire on it, it may be bent (been there, done that).. If it isn’t bent too bad it can be straightened. I used a company called Rim Doctor. They can also fix the finish. Not cheap, but less than a new OEM rim.

That sucks. Here in the Republic of Massachusetts road repair is way, way, way, down the list of priority below every social program ever dreamed of. When road repairs are in process they usually make the roadway much much worse with washboard patchwork, rim bending abutments and transtions, and inch thick steel plates. Expect construction to last months if you’re lucky probably longer. They will grind down miles of highway in the spring in preparation of re-paving late fall. Makes me really consider getting a space saver spare.

Thanks for being a good husband and keeping your cool.

What size did you get on the stock wheels? Wanting to switch to dws06+ as well, but only have 5k miles on the stock continentals so far.
I went with 245/40. It made the handling a little ‘sloppier’ but was amazing for road-tripping and highway driving. Probably could’ve gotten away with a smaller sidewalk but the 245/40s were readily available and cheaper to boot. The bigger sidewalk filled in a little fender/wheel gap which was a nice bonus (I was on stock suspension)

ill be replacing my current set of oem rubber on my new car once I bubble them on a pothole or they begin to get super noisy again; hopefully just the latter!

BTDT ...a couple of months ago, I hit a pothole with my Type S.... rim scratched, tire gashed!
That was with the recommended air pressure....now I add much more!
...I also agree the 30 profile tires are NOT made to be run on Massachusetts roads!

Interesting thread. I slammed a pothole the other day and swear I bent a rim. I'm on forged Apex's and I think wheel and tire are doing ok after a few hundred miles... but I'm pretty sure I did bend the hell out of one of the OEM wheels, as it got real shaky above 70mph or so until I had it rebalanced. They're not that strong! Or light... but they can be had for cheap! Lots of wheels available from people getting extra ones when they opted for the bronze finish. At least they were at one point... I'll probably scoop one up eventually because I still use them in the winter months.

Maybe. But I see 17s these days and think they look ridiculous. I'm honestly not sure of the science, but aesthetically I can't go back to the 00s in this regard.

Is that what we're doing now, blaming socialism for things like public road repair? In the new world order potholes will be repaired so much faster by the billionaires. I can't wait!

Also interesting to see the kudos applied for the absence of domestic abuse. I suppose with Diddy in the news cycle so much it is something to be celebrated.

Sorry just now seeing you have the TypeS. I had/have the ASpec
I didn't see that, I saw "stock continentals"... and then looked at his profile and confirmed an A-spec.

For anyone paying attention, DWS06+ are pretty much the only show in town for all seasons in OEM sizes on the Type S.
