Hey guys, took my oem carbon fiber spoiler off to re clear coat it because it was peeling. Found the previous owner did touch up the holes, but not well enough. Slight bubbling around the and spots in rim of hole. Should I take to a body shop to have done right or try to tape off and tackle myself? How much do you think a job like this would be to just make it right and not rust and spread?

- Remove all rust;
- Touch up paint and let dry;
- Apply some anti-rust grease;
- Put back spoiler.

Remove as much rust as possible, then use Rust reformer or Rust converter. This will act as a primer at which then you can put paint on afterwards. Don't use paint first it will trap oxidants that will later act as a catalyst for future metal to rust. Fortunate for you rust reformer only comes in black, so on your black car any accidental overspray shouldn't be noticeable.

Did you argue with Acura about having to repair their very expensive poorly finished carbon fiber peices? It’s bullsh!t that we have to redo the clear coat in less than 2 years. Also why not choose a manufacturer that used the same mounting holes instead of drilling new and tape over existing ones.

Exactly, I went to dealer and they didn’t have receipt or record a dealer installed. I should have argued, but figured I’d need to re clear anyway. Kinda sucks I still have some of the fading I can see, but looks way better after re clearing. Still cleaning up the trunk before putting back on.

When you pulled the spoiler off did it have the little foam grommets that slot around the pull tabs and holes? Theoretically those are supposed to keep water out, but I'm curious how in tact they were when you pulled it off.

Those would have been on the OEM factory installed spoiler. I don't recall them being included w/ the OEM optional CF spoiler when I installed mine and the directions make no mention of reusing them.

Worst case, you can use weatherstripping from a hardware store.

Interesting, my carbon one came with them, and the tape to cover the previous holes like you have.
