Yes, all valid. I apologize, as I wasn't attempting to compare a stock ITS with fully track prepped cars. I agree, there is no comparison there. As I recall, I think my 996 series GT3 weighed a bit under 3,000 pounds. It didn't have a ton of power, but that relatively light weight, a great suspension, and tremendous brakes made it a delight on track.
The 996 is killer! There's a white gt3 in my area... Man it gives me whiplash when I spot it 😅.

I agree the Integra "feels light" and does have a lightness about it, I just think it's heavier than it seems. But it does have power...

Yep, great cars. The sound of that motor at 8,500 is in my memory forever. Best brakes I ever experienced. Give me 10% better brakes over 10% more hp! Those were expensive days, and worth every penny! As Wayne Gretsky said, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take!"

You guys need to stop. I'd already zeroed in on a DC2 for my next "track/weekend" car and now I'm trying to convince myself why I shouldn't be looking at a 996.

My (unsolicited) advice, if you are going to look at a 996 series Porsche, and can afford it, look for a well maintained GT3. Any car of that generation will be way out of warranty, and the GT3 is about bullet proof. I guess most folks know, that motor is not a 911, but based on the GT1 Le Mans race car. It has a large dry sump tank and a bunch of oil pumps. They ran them tilted 90 degrees at the factory. That said, if you have a major issue, well, the repair will be an eye-watering figure. It is also not a car that most folks would endure on the street. With a lack of insulation, it's kind of like an engine bolted to a beer can, so interior conversation is a challenge. But, as long as the motor is running, there are better things to hear! If you do it, I can promise a life-changing experience.

Well. Since we are issuing unsolicited advice 😂

Mf buy a new 911! Just fuck everything. The college fund, the mortgage, your relationship with your spouse. None of those things can take a turn at over 1.5 G’s! And I bet their 0-60 is slower than the 911 too!

Counterpoint, an 86 with 5k in work will also do 1.5G+ and still revs to lunacy.

It just won't be an eye watering figure when it doesn't leave its coolant all over the track, but I'd be willing to give that part up for the cheapo tires and brakes 🙃

Fair. But. The 86 > wife kids etc argument is tough to make

the 911 > wife kids etc is tough to make but way easier than a 86

respectfully 😂

The GT3, which was the point of my post, has no rear seat, problem solved. Very different cars. The standard 911 series is a great car, but it can't compare with the GT3. Mine was an '05 model I bought used before the market went crazy, still kicking myself for selling it.

And there it is- I won't consider a GT3 of any year because the market for them is batshit.

It's not really worth thinking about to be completely frank. As far as I'm aware, a 996 GT3 right now is still going for well north of 6 figures, at a minimum. You can get a 996 Carrera S for probably less than $30k. For a clean one with relatively low miles.

Of course it would be a very different car...

We're veering wildly off topic here but I don't care if you guys don't... but part of the reason I love my Type S so much is that it helped me realize that I don't need a Porsche to have fun in a car. My previous car trajectory had me convinced that I had to keep going up in MSRP to complete my "vision" for a good sports car, and the Type S proves that as a fallacy. To me, anyway.

In that same sense I've shifted my goals for my next "toy car" pretty dramatically. I was very set on a Lotus Emira (or another Boxster...) to complement my DE5, but recently started to realize I'd get more out of an old-school, analog car that hits all the same highs the Emira or Boxster would, plus the added sense of nostalgia (and dramatically reduced price) as a very welcome bonus.

I get that a GT3 would be a great experience (I actually really like your "engine strapped to a beer can" analogy...), and there's still plenty of argument to be made that ~$100k is better spent on the 20 year old 996 GT3 than a modern Emira. But from my perspective a DC2/996 Carrera S would get me pretty much all I'd personally want out of a 2nd car, so I see no sense in setting budget or expectations high enough where a GT3 becomes a target.

DC2 still wins on nostalgia (was a dream car for me personally in high school, Porsches weren't interesting to me until I hit 40, strange how that works out...), but the 996 is just an enticing platform. I've even seen there's a viable path to a Honda K-series swap if the IMS bearing issue pops up...!

Yep, your point is well taken, and pretty much sums up my current position also. I've owned and tracked some very satisfying sports cars. For track use, I would choose any of them before the ITS. But as they say, if your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle, but that's not reality. At age 75 and retired, although I enjoy good health, it is just not the time in my life to get back into that stuff. I've had a good run, and I have been lucky to have enjoyed more high performance cars than most folks. And as my mom used to say, I have my memories. The Integra Type S hits my current target dead center, and I'm focused on enjoying it. Heck, I'm really just learning to manage a front drive car, and learning is part of the fun.

I have to agree with what everyone has said about the RS and M cars on here. They are blazingly fast but they lack driving dynamics. That is what interested me about the ITS in the first place... the Manual Transmission.
I am always thinking about what my next car would be and I would be lying if I hadn't thought of another RS3 or RS5 as they were both sublime vehicles. I have thought about going the Panamera GTS route as that car intrigues me but not much can beat an 8Y Turbo Blue RS3 at the moment for me. Thinking that could be the next vehicle to enter the stable for me.
I have never been a fan of the 2 Series BMW's so that choice is easy for me not to like it. I was intrigued for a little bit knowing that the M2 xDrive will be coming out sometime in 2026... but I just do not like the look of it. The new RS5 is slated to come out soon. But not a huge fan of the new S5 and I am sure it will follow those body lines mostly.
I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be happy with any car fully.
