Shift boot collar refuses to release... any thoughts?

Hi all, and apologies if this topic is extensively covered elsewhere - I did a search and didn't find anything specific.

I have a 2026 ITS and I am unable to get the shift boot collar to release so that I can, among other things, access the locknut for swapping out shift knobs. I have tried everything to try and get it to release short of using tools like as pliars or a flathead screwdriver etc to add downward force for fear of breaking the plastic locking ring.

Any tips, tricks or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This is all I found in the online procedures. I used a plastic interior panel removal tool to force it down the first time. After that it was much easier to do by hand.

If you do it this method it will break the retaining tabs or make the collar very loose upon reinstall. Remove the center console (just pull up). There is a harness that’s connected to it so u can’t take it off all of the way. Use a small flathead to lift the clips on either side of the collar, from underneath, and it should slip right off.

Here is an image of when I replaced the center console. It shows you the ziptie that you need to cut. I ended up cutting mine and replacing it with no problem.

Had the same issue, There Is a vid YouTube that shows using a tiny screw driver up top to open up the Ended up getting a hybrid racing collar. Looks nicer anyways. Pfp’s way works, just don’t put too much force on those tab, ask me how I know. Good luck

Two angled picks work also. Much easier to cut the zip tie first. After that, you can see the lock tabs.
