Ok. Installing This tomorrow. The jeep wrangler dude seems to know what he’s doing and the amount of ducks on the dash makes me feel he’s very qualified for this.

will report back with news tomorrow morning

Ok. Homie with the wrangler installed. Took this mf like 10 minutes to rip shit apart and remove the whole sub box. 2 minutes to remove the sub. 1 minute of presenting the new sub and wiring it up as per the instructions here. Like 2 minutes to fill the bitch with a lot of that poly fill shit. Mf took more than I expected surprisingly. Maybe 10 minutes to put the whole enclosure back and tighten the nuts. About 20 minutes to put the pieces in the trunk back together cuz that back piece was being a little dick pulling mother fucker

right away. Left my eq alone. Got highs at like 60%. Mids at like 50% and bass at 100%

this mf thumps harder. About 10% harder. Not bad for 60$ and like an hour of work. Should’ve came like this from the factory.

now. If U go beyond volume #13. I went as high as 17 I think. Just to test. Holy fuck. From 14 onward this mf thumps like 20% harder. Why the hell is that?!? Is it getting more power cuz of the higher volume?!

thanks to the homie that offered himself as tribute in case I needed help. Thnx to dude who wrote this how to. Thnx to wrangler dude for the install. Thanks to the outcast speaker box intro, it’s the song I use to test bass.

Maybe @Ash @ S2i Audio has more insight, but that's my experience with the Rockford as well. It seems like whatever the factory amp is doing is pushing more power exponentially as volume goes up. I had the same experience with the factory sub, it was just suuuuuper weak. The highs getting tinny and loud are what I really hate about the els. It makes it sound very cheap. I'd say with poly and deadening I feel a good 30-40% bump. Up higher definitely more like 60%, but then the treble gets so pitchy it's painful. I normally prefer a Nike check shaped curve (that's how my q7 is set, how my fender in the gti was set, and how the Harmon in the X7 is set), but in the its I've been happiest with treb at -4, mids at -2, and bass at +5.

I still plan to do an amp for the sub so I can bring it down to 0 and flatten some of the bass it's sending to the doors at +5, because the door speakers can't handle it and they wash out the mids quickly.

For reference, most of my listening is classic rock, hip hop, and rap. If anyone tries to play country in my car, they get pushed out the door. I'll blast Miley Cyrus and Taylor swift before I allow that twangy stuff 😅🤣.

My belief is that the stock system has a gnarly loudness contour (relative adjustment of bass to mids as the volume goes up) that doesn't match the human ear very well. It's probably bc the stock sub compresses power a lot faster than the more competent rockford sub.

Only solution is to go aftermarket DSP so you can set your own contour - the factory one isn't tuneable.

I decided to do this after I saw the RF guys post but I didn’t like the specs on the Rockford. I never saw this MB but I did end up swapping the stock sub out for a DS18 SRW8. The specs are pretty good for working with the stock amp and it only cost me $80.
When I swapped out the sub I coated the inside of the stock box with fiberglass resin and put a couple pieces of butyl on the outside.
I also put sound deadening in the trunk, back seat area and inside all the doors.
The bass is somewhat louder, enough to satisfy, and it’s a whole lot tighter now even with bass set to 0.
