Il take the plunge, the PRl Filter always looked a bit wimpy too me. The AEM seems to be 20% off ($50.39. free ship) directly at AEM and K&N as well and vendors who just drop ship.

I think it's criminal that we let aftermarket equipment suppliers "convince" us to buy upgraded products, without demanding at least some basic technical / engineering measurements to show why their stuff is superior to OEM, or to each other. Obviously, there are a number of parameters that apply to most products, but in the case of air filters I'd at least expect to see things like:

• pressure vs flow characteristics
• particle sizes captured
• flow versus service life
• typical expected life
• intake noise
• cost versus expected life
• other stuff that would add to the sales pitch comparisons.

Kinda makes you wonder how many automotive "upgrades" actually do just the opposite?

But as others have already stated, that just doesn't make sense from a business perspective. The sentiment in this thread should be enough to convince you of that, but end of the day the market is the ultimate authority and the sad reality is that virtually no one even asks these questions, let alone withholds their wallet unless they have the answers.

Honestly I could start going down a gaping rathole on how the vast majority of people just don't stop to bother with scientific things like facts and empirical evidence, and if you really want to dive off the illuminati deep end we can start exploring how that's tied to government regulations.

Actually nvm that conversation will just spike my cortisol again so I'll just go back to coping like I usually do. Which sadly one of my coping mechanisms is driving my car, and I like hearing swooshy sounds.

I know it's only been a few months but have there been any updates on the awe intake? Seems like it might be a "best of both worlds" if they use a good quality dry filter.

Yes, swooshy intake sounds are nice ...

So go one better - totally eliminate the entire air filter, including housing. Saves a bunch of weight and all that beautiful swoosh will then help mask the darker sounds of inhaled dirt grinding cylinder walls, piston rings, and valve guides.

Next, "upgrade" to an aftermarket low restriction OIL FILTER bypass - I'm sure someone makes one that's chrome plated and boosts horsepower. That way any hidden grinding can move on to main & rod bearings. Swoosh, Swoosh, Grind, Grind, Knock, Clunk ..... silence.

This is why I'm staying away from HIGH FLOW filters. Filter has 11,000km. I rather loose some HP and protect the engine. To each it's own.

I wouldn’t be to worried about it. I remember my friends and I as young kids with FG2s and DC5s with after market intakes and 200,000+ miles and we never cleaned those filters lol imagine the amount of dirt that went into those engines

Yes, I did that as well. Engine was drinking lots of oil after that intake install the beauty of younhood

Lots of dirt/dust made it past the seals on my aem dry (and they're typically the best). I've reversed my stance on them and all aftermarket airfilters. I've gone back to oem paper now as well.

It’s tough to go back to the quietness of the OEM intake once you go aftermarket. Turbo sounds are the best

It's all covered up by exhaust for me with the borla anyway. At some point I'll buy some silicone hose and cut it to size to replace the corrugated sections. That and welding off the helmholtz in the oem aluminum section over the turbo should bring back some noise for fun.

Someone posted a photo of a prl filter in the light a bit ago and it looked just like my 034...holes big enough for rice to pass through.

I believe it. I fucked up. Everyone was raving about the thing so I bought it. Totally forgetting the loudest Honda people have been full of shit since the sohc d engine days. Never again will I ever trust another Honda person especially if they speak English lol
