When I shift in gear 1, 2, 5, 6 and R, when I let go of the shift knob, it'll bounce back towards center slightly, thus having a slight "slop" when in these gears. I guess this is normal as it's like this from day-one, but is it possible to eliminate this slop somehow?

Basically I wish the shift knob stays exactly in place when I let go of it.

Get a different car with a longitudinal layout, direct trans-mounted shifter, and get a high-end shifter for it.

I'm serious, this is the wrong car for that.
So no way to solve the slop for cable shifter?

You already have a car with a really, really good setup. The Acuity shifter does wonders for getting rid of slop.

Based on your other thread, it looks like you didn't muck with your detent springs. @ashmostro tried doing the lateral detent spring combined with the Acuity upgrades and didn't like it, ended up reverting back. See his thread here: https://www.integraforums.com/forum...ove-lateral-slop-on-shifter.57332/post-935516

If I were you, I'd focus less on what it's like sitting still and just drive it. I notice the same thing you do (to a lesser extent maybe, my knob isn't as high) when I'm just toying around with the shifter, but while driving the car it's a non-issue.

I have the same dislike for the lateral slop, itsgr8. But as Spart pointed out, there's unfortunately nothing that can be done to get rid of it. I reached out to Acuity and they told me it's inherent to the transmission design. Detent springs won't remove the slop, just mask your perception of it, slightly.

I've grudgingly accepted it and moved on. :/

This is my first manual car so i don't have previous reference points. The slop is a bit annoying when driving as well, esp the 1-2 shift. I might reduce the height and/or reduce the throw a bit to experiment. I also ordered a set of fk8td detent springs. Will try them and report back.

Reducing height can help mask this. The higher the knob, the longer the lever... slop at the pivot point (in terms of "distance") will be multiplied at the lever's end point -- increasing as the lever length does --, and effort required to move the lever will decrease as the lever's length increases, etc.

Do you have solid bushings on the trans side? That's the only thing you can do. Your table leg shifter isn't helping.

The problem with this is *everything* scales down. Yes, the slop is less but so is the gate spacing. The relative slop is always fixed.

Yes, that's why I said you can "mask" it -- not solve it. In my case, I like the short throws and close gate spacing, so 😃

Additionally, for me personally, the ratio of throw length / gate spacing : slop doesn't really matter. If I have 2 shifters, both with 3mm of slop, 1 with 60mm throws, and 1 with 90mm throws, I'm not going to be more forgiving of the slop in the long throw shifter, just because the slop is a smaller % of throw length. 3mm of slop is 3mm of slop.
I'd much rather have 50mm throws and 2mm of slop than 100mm throws and 4mm slop, even if I wasn't partial to short throws. ...All very subjective, though.

For reference, I'm running the Acuity 4 way at the shortest throw setting and default gate settings. The height is at 2, or slightly lower than stock. I'm on the factory detent springs and also installed the Acuity shifter bushings + the heavy Dream Teardrop.

Apparently I'm wearing the same outfit also (to keep things consistent).

I have WAY more slop than you (sounds weird). Like a LOT more.

Grrrr....

The only delta between our setups are the cable bushings. I'm running stock. Hmmmmmmmmmm....

Have you tried a different sweater?

Are back on factory detent springs Ash? I don't remember if you swapped back, I'm wondering if that's a factor.

I did factory and tried both springs. What I ended up liking the most (and how it's set up now) is the longitudinal spring only.

The springs did nothing for the slop. They just make it so you need to use more lateral force to feel it. But the displacement is the same.
