I’d like to share my stock dp q300 video and my q300 with resonator replaced by a 3” in and out fluid motor union megaphone. But the files are too large. Any advice? I don’t have a YouTube account.

Remark SS with burnt tips

Update: after much fiddling, I have gotten the system to a volume/drone level that I can tolerate. The downside is that I am more of a fan of higher-pitched harmonics but if you try to quiet down a 4cyl with typical tools (ie not a helmholtz res) you are going to deepen the fundamental frequency of the system. Most people these days actually prefer this, but I do not.

That said, my goals for making this change were primarily to get more flow with a full 3 inch system, and a better looking set of outlets in the back. Sound was secondary bc I just don't like the sound of 4 cyl engines in general.

So, what did I change?
I added a Vibrant "Ultra Quiet" Resonator 1142 right after the front pipe connection, and swapped out the Remark 5" bottle resonator with a much larger Vibrant 1119 6" diameter 14" long round muffler which fits just fine between the heat shields. overall volume is very tolerable, with just the slightest remaining 2.5-3k drone, but nothing like it was before.

I do think i am more sensitive to drone that many others, given my preference for higher frequency sounds and less desire for bass (even in my music), so take my concerns and modifications accordingly and don't write off the Remark system, as I still think it's well engineered and achieves its goals.

Now, I wouldn't blame you for wondering why did I bother buying an engineered aftermarket exhaust only to chop it up and installed parts from another manufacturer? The answer is, i could have gone fully custom but in the end it would have been much more expensive because much of the cost of a custom system is in the trial-and-error of getting all the compound curves, lengths, etc. right. By buying a fully built well-fitting system, I bypassed that step and got to focus on the modular pieces to get the sound I wanted.

Update tres 🤣:

I just ordered a 3"-4"-3" megaphone from Fluid Motor Union that I'm going to install in the straight section between the second Vibrant resonator and the Remark muffler. Looking to get some turbulence back into the system to spice up the sound quality. Will report back once I have it (takes two ish weeks for them to build).

You should go find gti Jake (Baun Performance)! He'd probably love to sit down and fab with you. If he could help design a proper sound tuning for this car you'd get much better sound and top tier build quality for roughly the same amount as the typical boxed options on this platform.

I’ve seen Jake’s work on the VW GTI mk7 and 7.5

mf’s welds are pristine. He basically welds like a 55 year old man that’s been welding since he was 12.

Prl intake. Stock dp but q300 exhaust. Pwr intercooler. Removed the q300 resonator for the fluid motor union 3” in and out 5” thick megaphone.

it’s very UWU but as we all know, UWU-ness is subjective.

Sounds pretty spiffy! If I were in SC I would def consider it (and if this was two weeks ago lol).

That said, I think it should be clear by now that I love the process as much as the outcome. I like learning new things and doing them myself as much as possible, and I accept that I'll make mistakes along the way. For me, it's all part of the fun.

I agree! If I had a decent welder in my area that wasn't afraid of valved exhausts and triple tips I would have gone down the experimentation route myself.

At some point I'll chop the tips on the borla, but I need to find some quality ss, double wall, slash cut, resonated tips that are equal in size and fit the borla pipe variety. Ark has some good tips, but because of their sizing I'd have to do an Fk8 style size (large, small, large).

Regardless, I'm excited to hear your results, so you'll have to grab some clips!
