I'm mostly just posting this as a heads up to anyone who is maybe seeing similar behavior. I didn't find much when I tried to search the internet for the starting problem. Also, shoutout to the tech if he sees this. He has an ITS also and might frequent the forum.

2024 Integra Type S
16k miles
2nd owner, bought CPO @ 8k miles

About 2 weeks ago I started noticing that my Integra didn't want to crank, intermittently of course. I would hop in, push the clutch and jab the start button, but it wouldn't crank. All the accessories would come on, but the starter wouldn't engage. The first time I thought that maybe I didn't have the clutch in all the way or something, but when I would pump the clutch and try again, I'd get the same thing. I have to push and hold the start button for a second or two before the starter actually engages. When this would happen, I would notice that the car didn't idle up as normal, it just didn't have the same pep, the exhaust note sounded vaguely different, and the burble tune wouldn't activate in sport+, even on a 30+ minute drive. Checking vehicle battery, using different key fob, etc. made no difference. Sometimes turning the car off and back on would resolve the issue, sometimes it would persist. For folks looking for this issue on search engines, I guess I'd call this a start delay on DE5 Integra Type S.

Fast forward to last weekend and I'm driving my family home from church. Casual driving with the wife and kids, so nothing spirited, the car throws an exhaust warning, lane departure system failure, adaptive cruise failure, check engine light, and brake system light. All the codes and lights persist and/or reappear after clearing and letting the car sit in timeout for a while to think about what it's done. Temperature normal.

I get it to the dealer the next morning and the call I get from the tech says that I have a pretty serious leak in the coolant reservoir and they're pretty sure that's caused all the issues. Their explanation is that low coolant basically makes the ECU really angry and it spits out lots of codes. That none of those codes would indicate "low coolant" doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not a certified mechanic or car manufacturer. My feeling is that if the coolant had leaked into some sensors or something, that would make more sense, but I'd like those sensors replace, too, you know?

They've ordered the part and will let me know when it's ready for me to pick up. I will update the thread in a few days to see if the issue has actually resolved.

It's quite true that these cars, when something is wrong, will throw lot and lot of codes.

For a fuel issue, I also get brake codes, cruise control codes, lane departure codes, etc...

Don't ask me why I know.

I've had all these warning lights and 26 days at the dealer and counting. Misfire codes was the start of it.

I asked them to check the coolant weeks ago but they blew it off. They have replaced the fuel injectors and crankshaft position sensor no fix according to them. They've said I need a new PCM but haven't told me why or how they came to that conclusion.

Hopefully you have better luck than I have. 4 more days and it's a lemon anyways.

Wow, 26 days is crazy. This is the first real issue I've had. I was planning on dropping an Infinity HVI in it, but with all the chatter I'm seeing about reliability issues, I don't want to risk that 100k powertrain warranty for a little more turbo noise and the cool look under the hood.

You happen to get the trouble codes from them? Doubtful your coolant reservoir is the cause.

Also the reason Hondas/Acuras light up like Christmas’s tree’s are because multiple modules depend on one another and if a trouble code is found in one of them then the other modules are basically telling you hey take a look at X module because is has a code (hence all the systems being offline).

Unfortunately not yet. I can see about getting those the next time I talk to the tech. I'm also pretty suspicious of the coolant reservoir causing all of those codes, unless it managed to short out a sensor and cause intermittent failures that way.

Got the car back yesterday. I asked them to print out the codes that they saw. Apparently the codes related to the adaptive cruise and lane departure were transient.

U0401-68: PCM (PGM-FI System) Malfunction
P0115: ECT Sensor 1 Out of Range

The only documented repair action was swapping out the reservoir and refilling the coolant. They tested the ECT sensor (which I honestly think malfunctioned due to coolant contamination), but it seemed to be working fine. I requested they keep it for another day and try to start it a bunch of times to make sure it fired up properly. They claimed no issues with multiple start attempts. I've started it half a dozen times with no issues.

If it starts giving me trouble again I'll update the thread.
