I have the DE5 and S2000 as my capable manuals, and the G80 M3 Comp and GTS T-Hybrid as my daily/fast performance toys.

The G80 dct is the right move. I really wanted to love their manual but after driving 3 (two used and one new) I left incredibly disappointed. If you think our 1-2 and 3-2 shifts are bad, the G80 will make you scream profanity. I also drove a GTS with a manual and it was much better, but the dead pedal I found to be way too close to the clutch for my clunky feet 🙃.

I had a G80 6MT same time as my FL5 and I agree.

the G80 in auto comes with the ZF8. If It had the same DCT as my F80 and F87, i'd probably grab another. No offense at all to the ZF8, but it just doesn't have that lively dual clutch feel.

Ah didn't realize they dropped the dct. I haven't driven the auto since I just don't have interest in it.

The dct, dsg, pdk, etc stuff has been reliable and lively at speed in my experience, but the drawback seems to be low speed, setting off, and "getting confused" when you're slowing down and then suddenly need to accelerate (like when a red light turns green as you get there). I'm honestly not surprised to see manufacturers starting to drop the dual clutch transmissions because a lot of people have been complaining about them for exactly that last scenario. An M2 I drove was BAD. At about 8mph if the light turns green and you gently accelerate, it would sometimes hesitate for almost 2 seconds before moving. The dsg and pdk crowd have seen issues when setting off and the car goes into gear, starts to move, jumps to neutral for a second, then back into gear and drives off normally. It's not always reproducible, but it seems to occur on a hot start when it does occur. It feels like stall protection logic or something and I thought it was just my gti, but it also happened in two caymans I've driven. They're just too quirky for the average car buyer.

I have never driven a G80 manual yet so thank you for the comparison. I used to own a 2004 Audi S4 manual and the shifter was not as good. And I am always debating about the better shifter between DE5 and S2K. Somehow I think the S2K shifter might be a little bit better. It feels smoother and more confident. Hope to hear from people that have also driven both.

And the 992.2 GTS does not come in manual since it it T-Hybrid but I test drive a 992.1 T in 7 speed manual and the shifter was excellent too. Very short, felt very precise.

Agree. the G80 auto is exactly how you described it. But the GTS, with the hybrid has virtually no turbo lags and great torque so it can pull almost instantly at any gear. The pdk feels very good and shifts the way I would want it to shift.

I prefer the S2k shifter over the DE5. The DE5 is still cable actuated whereas the s2k is direct linkage, so it has a more mechanical feel that I prefer.

100% agree. I sometimes drive the two cars back to back, and always felt the S2K shifter to be more satisfying! My S2K is bone stock so the only thing missing is a few more HP to make it a perfect car.

All you guys mentioning S2k has me spotting them everywhere now. I've counted at least half a dozen this weekend, which is wild because I've only driven like 20 miles in total and it's fairly cold out. I swear I've never seen this many around me before. Two of them appear to have been modded by children, two by people who should be institutionalized, one had a chopped bumper with chunks of missing yellow paint, and one I was following because it was so clean... and I would have offered money for it on the spot 😂

Now I'll go back to not seeing another one for the next 5 months. 🙃

I pair my Type-S with a 25 BMW M240i (Wife's) and a 2026 Cadillac CT5-V AWD that I've been modding. Traded in My 24 Golf R for the Caddi in November.

Is that a Blackwing? The CTV 4 or 5 Blackwing is another car that I want to try. Lots or great reviews, especially the manual version. How do you like it?

Just my preference , S2K shifter > ITS. Before my CGTS, I test drove and crossed shopped a 997.1 Carrera T in manual (even a deposit for a 997.2 T), a few test drives and it just felt honestly like an upscale ITS (but not worth 3x) Very capable smooth, if one could only have 1 car vs complimenting ones, that would be a nice choice.

I have 3 6MT cars, and my preference for shifter feel and overall engagement using the manual is ; s2k > 981 GT4 > DE5.

I do think all 3 are very good.
