damn the De5 can't use that tongue that extends down behind the front grille. I like that look. I wonder if there is a way to make that work...

So what's the actual consensus for a decent quality intake with able to be used with a decent filter? I'm also not looking for something *too* loud, just that I can hear that isn't overpowering.

Seems like maybe the PRL w/ an AEN filter is the way to go?

I take that back. Got the dreaded code again even after applying the sealant. I now feel confident this is a more fundamental design issue, likely with the size of the intake tube and possibly also the relative location of the evap passages.

I asked AFE to send me the new tube under the TSB and they did send a new tube, but it looks identical to the old one. No new sealing system etc. Rather than deal with their shoddy customer service I am just going to toss it.

I went back to the OE intake with PRL hoses and K&N filter and it feels more torquey down low. This could be related to the intake tube diameter being different (the ECU would be tuned to a specific air speed to mass relationship, which is determined by the diameter).

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE TAKEDA INTAKE.
Y'all. I need to do the right thing here and amend my prior statements above.

TL;DR: the Takeda intake is now working perfectly, and I love it. I am placing it back on my enthusiastic recommend list, with a footnote.

The long version: AFE contacted me a while back after they recognized they had not done a great job of addressing my issue and this issue in general. They had initially thought the issue was related to the seal quality around the aforementioned evap port, but that was never the root cause. They eventually discovered that it was the *shape* of the eval port on the inside - that conical surface - that was critical to the proper OEM-like function of the evap control function.
AFE roto-molds their plastic intake parts, and while that's a good, strong and cheap way to manufacture it can sometimes leads to defects in fill quality. This is what happened on our models. You might notice on some photos of these intakes, including my own photos earlier in this thread, that have overhanging plastic that does not look even or circular like the rest of the port. This caused turbulence of some sort and didn't allow for proper reading of the data, throwing the code. it also - at least in my case - caused a poor idle return.

AFE sent me a replacement tube with no defect, which I've been running for over a month now, and the error is permanently gone and the car is running smoother and with more bottom-end torque than with the OEM intake system.

I now love this intake and appreciate the larger opening on the frontal area, which I theorize is contributing to the excellent low-RPM throttle response and torque. It also sounds fantastic.

Hope this helps someone on the fence!

Heard a 27won in person today. Both outside and inside the car. That Mf is gloriously loud! At a stop U can see on LogR how the temp would shoot up but once the car drove about a block and a half temps stayed about 5 to 7f over ambient. My inner child was pleased.

dude parked next to me when I was On my way Back to the car. We talked for a bit. I mentioned my mods. He mentioned his. I asked if I could hear it. I was not kidnapped.
