6MT stock clutch longevity

Just crossing 50K miles on my 2023 ASpec with the 6MT. Curious how long the factory clutch is lasting for folks?

The clutch is a consumable item. If you occasionally drive like an asshole. You can expect 50-120k miles. Sorry for how crazy that sounds but there’s so many variables. Are you tuned. Are U tracking. Etc

my son has a 10gen si. Bolt ons and tuned since almost day one. The clutch began to slip around the 20k mark iirc. He doesn’t track but does hit canyons locally every spring and summer. He did the thing that allows him to fit the k20c1 clutch. Even with his turbo swap and stronger bottom end. It’s holding fine. He’s at about 70k miles

Not tracking occasional spirited driving not tuned. I’ll have to look up that clutch modification. Thanks for the tip.

Your clutch should last a good while then

one thing I thought of. The clutch delay valve. It seems to put the clutch in a position to take a little more abuse vs the trans? That could be a variable too

Never replaced a clutch on a MT car. Been keeping them for ~20 years and 200k km.

That doesn’t sound like fun at all. It’s like those people that want their brake pads to last 70k miles so they use the brakes gingerly

also. Half of us don’t know what a kilometer is. We know it’s a thousand meters. But wtf even is a meter? Our country develops true stealth on our fighters and bombers. We use the superior imperial system here we don’t use that one system that has no clout

What are your best practices for such longevity? I daily my car and put about 10k a year on her. Once in a blue moon I’ll drive spiritedly but have never dumped the clutch or anything like that; just pulls onto the freeway and stuff like that when I’m already rolling.

Keep boost in the negatives before pushing the clutch in. Should ensure tq is at its lowest. Keep upshifts no higher than maybe 3k rpm. Don’t start a downshift till you’re at least at 1200 rpm. Again, the point is to keep tq at its lowest

If I can be real with you. Maybe try thinking of the clutch like brakes. Very very expensive brakes

so what if you don’t get 10 years out of it? At least the fun will be worth?

Just don't make it slip. And be gentle. That doesn't mean you can't have fun! I've done some racing with my previous cars!

Worst case, if one day your clutch is gone, then you replace it. A bit costly, but not the end of the world.
