So, my wife took the car to run a few errands and go to the gym.
She put her bag in the trunk, when she pushed the button to open it, the entire unit popped into the cavity in the hatch, can't open the trunk from the rear now and can't even feel the module in there.
I called Acura for a 10k inspection appointment hoping to go next week, BUT in the meantime does anyone know about these.
Something I can do to open the hatch another way and access this section?
any info would be helpful,
thanks

Seems like this issue is somewhat common. If you can fold down the rear seats and crawl in, there's a manual hatch release lever:

Yes, I have the same page opened, went out there, popped off the cover, didn't see or feel the part they say you can press to open it.
I can go look closer; I was pretty upset when I was there earlier.
I'm more looking for the fix
I never examined the part; it just worked so I never thought twice about it.
I wonder if I do open it, locate the module if it is something that I can reconnect, or screw into the hatch etc.

Happened in my teggy too. Dealer replaced it no problem but it was an inconvenience because it happened after picking up family from the airport so their luggage had to be pulled from the backseat.
Just a poor quality part made for the hatch door assembly.

Thanks for the clarity and your experience.
this is better than my wife hulked out and busted it as I had accused her of, she is pretty mad.
Thanks, I called Acura, waiting for a return call so I can book an appointment.

The release for sure is there, it's not as easy to see as the manual implies though. Something similar happened to my family's '17 Civic hatch, although in that case the electronics failed, whereas for the Integra it seems like the most common failure modes so far are mechanical. If you look at the back of the module there's a couple areas where it could fail:

Based off what you said, I'm guessing those plastic tabs for the screws probably sheared off and the button itself is floating around somewhere inside the trunk. You could probably epoxy or glue it back together temporarily, but there's not a lot of surface area and the shear strength of glue is not that good in the first place. Best course of action would be to get it replaced under warranty which it seems like you're already in the process of doing. Best of luck getting it fixed...

yeah it’s 100% not her fault, the door release assembly is made of plastic and not a high quality one at that. No one would have to visit Acura to replace if they used a metal plate but alas it may have either snapped or the rubber cover is also used to retain the release button and that it was pushed out of the bracket holding it in place. I do recommend the backseat release mechanism if you need to get a bigger item from the hatch, it’s a bit hard to see but with a flat head you should be able to find the (small) release lever towards the bottom left corner of the removable cover.
Hope this helps!

She fingered her a little too hard eh?

Jokes aside, I'm curious if this part is shared with the Civic and if they have the same problem.

So, I have to go to the dealer on Saturday because they close during the week before I get out of work, so I make an appointment, but I ask them, can't you just order the part so I come in once?
I know it is broken it isn't even there it is inside the hatch at this point.

Nope we need to see it, ok, so I have to get up at 530 on my day off, get to the dealer by 7, they look at it, order the part, I have to go back the following Saturday for them to replace it.
Inconvenient to say the least but ok, at least they fixed it.

BUT I noticed when I got it back, they took my grab handles out, turned them around and put them back in a way that now, so far anyway, they don't fall out.

I was having an issue with my right side, passenger side grab handle constantly popping out e3very other time I would open the hatch, it looks like it happened to them so they just did something about it, lol.
It looks a little odd, BUT hasn't fallen off in a week, so I am, not complaining.
Hatch works great now, and I learned something new about my car.

I did not realize there are two buttons on this thing, one on the far right, passenger side is to lock the car, the one on the driver side is to pop the hatch which you can't do when it is locked.
I swear this is the most annoying thing about this car, the fact that there is no trunk pop in the front dash, or on the FOB.
Just a silly over sight.
that and the 12 gallon tank, I could really use another tank.

I kind of wonder why Acura in their infinite wisdom did not make a hatch release button on the inside of the car too. If this breaks you are basically shit out of luck for using your hatch.
