For those of you who run UHP A/S, and especially any of you who have switched from PS4S to PSAS4, how are the PSAS4 for spirited daily driving? I am contemplating exchanging my PS4S for them. How much worse are they if all driving will be on
roads?

Context: I am fbo running e25-30. I am presently on 285/35/18 PS4S. They are great, sticky, love em. I am in the process of upgrading to E85 and a kuro, should be 450 whp or so soon.

I have an identical set of wheels shod in 285 width DWS06+ for Nov-March. I am contemplating selling this unused set of wheels/tires and exchanging my 40 day old (within Michelin promise exchange window) PS4S for a set of PSAS4 to recoup funds and simplify my life. It may be asinine to consider, but it would recoup some build costs.

In my NE Oklahoma zip code, we do get plenty of sub 40 days and a dusting of snow/freezing rain, but nothing sustained. There are lots of winter days where you could drive on PS4S. This is just a fast, fun daily driver/backroad/cloverleaf amusement park ride machine. Not going to be on a track anytime soon.

Am I likely to notice a big difference, assuming I do actually drive the car fast when I have the chance?

I am weighing the following:

1. Stay with my seasonal DWS06+ plan, overkill though it may be

2. Switch to PSAS4, sell second wheel/tire set, minimal difference for this case

3. Sell second set, run PS4S year round, slow down or take the wife’s AWD sometimes.

Thanks in advance, appreciate experienced input!

Not sure if you're aware, but tirerack has already done some of this effort for you. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartDisplay.jsp?ttid=270

That said. I've driven the psas4 and ps4s on a different vehicle, and I just generally prefer the feel of a summer tire over an all season, even on a 5klb+ suv. Swapping wheels takes up more storage, but they also last longer. This is me... Most people won't care about the difference as much. The psas4 is a fine tire, and will be reasonable so long as you're not expecting to do a burnout and then hook on launches with all that power. Even with a super 200 at stage 1 power I spin 2nd and start of third. With much more power even the ps4s I imagine you're feathering a ton..?

Thanks for the reply! Even the stock power would lose the OEM tires in 1st. I had not seen that tire rack test. Seems like the answer to my question is “you won’t notice it in daily driving except for during the really fun parts…so how important are the fun parts to you?”

Bingo.

It has become one of my favorite days of the year when I get to take the all-seasons off the car.

Also FWIW, there isn't much tangible difference between DWS06 and AS4S. Neither will extract nearly the full potential out of the car, even on the street.

I should keep my setup. Tuning the thing to 450+ whp on e85 and promptly slapping on all seasons does seem a bit asinine. If only the resounding response to this question was “it’s the same but year round!”…but it clearly is not..

Honestly with that much power, what's your expectation around acceleration? Are you looking to make use of the power? With 450w in a 3300lb car, you're looking at 7.3:1 power to weight... Like 600whp in a mustang, lol. You'll have about 2 seconds of wot fun before you're in arrest me territory.

Wait until the Kuro is installed then revisit your question.

I have a feeling you’ll be looking for something stickier. You nearly have the perfect 2 tire solution for year round enjoyment.

(I run DWS06+ in winter, Conti ECS02 in summer and Kuhmo v730 [for now] on track with your standard bolt on and tune recipe.).

I think I stick to seasonal swaps. Probably a good reason so many others prefer it, and I already have the wheels and tires. Appreciate the input, everyone!

I've run both the PS4AS and DWS06's previously, you're not going to see much difference between them to be honest. So you can use that as a benchmark.

Like optronix, I too also have 3 sets of wheels haha, but planning to sell the oem set and spacers. I've decided I am going to keep the car much longer term.

I run falken rt615+ and a michelin psas4. For a while I had the all seasons on and they were fine. Then I did some HPDE track days with the 200tw falkens and really learned the car, then did some street duty thereafter. Now I hate having the all seasons on. The car is so much better when having traction, especially tuned which I am. Spinning in 3rd with the all seasons is not fun. Less grip in a rwd car can be fun, but in fwd car its just annoying.

Exactly, I think that anyone who can tolerate all seasons on the car hasn't explored what the car is actually capable of.

You don't know what you don't know.
