Went to dealer because there was a nice chip in one of the door jams that went all the way to metal, and had surface rust on it. These geniuses' just put touch up paint on top of the rust spot. I did purchase an appearance package plan, but honestly it says it doesn't cover paint chips in the contract. They didn't charge me for anything, should I go back and demand they fix it properly? Did I get lucky they even did anything and I should have it fixed at another shop? I def know what happens to rust underneath paint. Dealt with it on my RSX

The dealership is the last place you should've taken it. Don't take it back to the dealership for them to fix it. Consider yourself lucky and quit while you're ahead. Find a proper body shop if you need this addressed.

Just scratch the rust off yourself and put touch up paint after there is no more rust.

Before putting paint, remove any oily residue with something like rubbing alcohol.

Here's a good video on how to do a scratch repair properly by hand, if you have time and energy to do it. The pearl paint is hard to get perfect, but at least it's in the door jamb so you shouldn't see it as much as on the outside of the car. And it'll at least achieve your goal of cleaning and covering up a rust spot.

What does the contract for the appearance protection plan say? It is unlikely that the plan offered by a dealer covers "real" paint work, including surface repair, color-matched repainting, and finishing with clear coat in IMO.

As for the pearl paint, it seems that the Honda touch up paint does not contain any pearl.

I ordered touch up paint from a reputable place, and got 3 containers: base coat, pearl and clear coat.

Then discovered a local paint place near me that mixes all these together in the same container. Way much easier for application, and the result is quite good. Better than the Honda pen...and better that the 3-part paint, as way easier to put a thinner coat.

Was it a local place? Yeah I need to find something like that.

Yeah, local place near Montreal, Quebec, Canada. 15 $ for a small touch up paint bottle with a brush.

Probably way too far away for you, sadly!
