I bought my 2024 DE5 with 6400 miles to have my oil change yesterday. The dealer alert me that there is contamination build up on the electric fuel injector and needed to be replaced. They quoted me for 899.00 for this service which i declined. Anyone have any idea if this should be cover under warranty or anyone know exactly what EFITBS service is ?? Any information would be greatly help. Thank you.

Sounds fishy, I'd bring it to another dealer if you have one around.

This is the by product of free dealer services, most want to bring you in to sell you something. Most of the time is services you don’t need. I would run away from this dealer.

If there's no CEL or code for this then they're making shit up. Pretty bold to do it as soon as 6400.

6400? Should be under warranty. Electronic fuel injection throttle body service. Contamination from? Direct port injector getting clogged from Costco fuel already? If it was clogged open you would have hard long cold starts, closed you would run lean. For peace of mind. Toss in some seafoam on the next fill up.

Seafoam is a brand name treatment, but IMHO its more on the useless side of the spectrum of fuel additives.

If you use non top tier fuel and are concerned, use a few ounces of Techron concentrate per fill up, and toss a full bottle before a tank before an oil change.

If there was an actual injector issue that is covered by the 4/50, and how is a TB service replacing an injector? How does a TB itself become dirty on a DI car. So many questions :p

I think the tech was just trying to upsell some BS that could not be disproved easily, any cleaner would work. The stuff we use on BMWs smells like pine cones. At any rate, injector should be covered under warranty for any problem such as stuck, inactive, always active, electrical short.

I use shell. What I’ve seen on client cars is when they go to a mom n pops or Walmart/ Costco those cause issues. The BMW software can see the difference in octane levels and show us the quality of the last five fillups and average throughout the life of the car. I haven’t dug into Acura ecu much but I assume it would be the same. E85 is where things get real dirty in fuel regards.

Top Tier fuel has a minimum required additive level. Mobil is Top tier.

Non Top tiers are not guaranteed to do so. Lots of info out there if you want to go down the rabbit hole, but I don't lose any sleep. COSTCO actually does take non-additive generic fuel from the depot and adds it at their locations, so that's fine.

However <insert convenience chain or other grocery> likely does not. That can be dealt with by a few ounces of Techron per tank, easy peasy.

I only started doing this with the Integra....previously I didn't do it for years using Wawa fuel with zero fuel related issues on other cars (N55 BMW, 9A1 Cayman for example)
