DIY Heated Steering Wheel Install

I was able to get it installed. I guess I got lucky with the connector at the firewall. I only had to turn the connector one or two times before it slid in and clicked into place.

The hardest part for me was removing the 10 mm hex bolt on the steering wheel. I tried using an impact wrench with no luck. I ended up using a socket wrench with a 4-foot PVC pipe for extra leverage. I actually twisted a non-impact-rated extension bar, but after switching to impact-grade sockets and extensions, the bolt finally came loose.

I wish this steering wheel came with red stitching like my original one. I’ve seen that in Canada Acura offers it.

Yes, I, too, want to keep the stitching and perforation. I thought about getting the one from TTD Craft, but it was going to be $940. I got mine for $340.

I ended up buying the TTDCraft one specifically for the red stitching. Called a few Canadian dealers first but they don't sell the the US. Tried Acura Corporate and they told me they aren't allowed to sell non-US-market parts for US-market cars and that I shouldn't be mixing them because the car can break. Yeah ok.

I emailed TTDCraft and told them exactly what I wanted: red stitching, perforation on the sides, and a flat bottom. Took them 3-4 weeks even with the Chinese new year. They'll customize it exactly how you want it, so don't think you're limited to only the choices you see on their page.

I still had to buy the black stitching Acura wheel to get all the harnesses, switches, etc and transfer them over to the TTDCraft wheel. Expensive but worth it. Buy once, cry once. I was able to sell my original wheel and the one with black stitching (someone wanted one as a backup for whatever reason, I'm not complaining) to offset the cost.

It's been great in winter and I don't really have complaints after 2 years. Only slightly disappointing thing is it only gets hot at 10/2 and 8/4, but I guess that's standard. My wife's RAV4's OEM wheel does the same thing.

Wow! That means a totol of $940 + $340 = $1280. That was way more than I wanted to spend just for the stitching and perforation, so it definitely makes me feel like I made the right choice. I wish I had your budget for it! Yours does look great!

Thanks! I think it definitely helped that I was able to recoup some of the costs by selling the other two wheels. And I saved some more elsewhere by buying the bare-bones power folding mirror kit instead of the plug and play version. Granted it was the only one available at the time, but I tell myself this to make me feel better lol. #CarEnthusiastMath
