Sorry to sidetrack a bit, but semi-related. Anyone noticing air loss on their front Apexs? I know there are known concerns with the OEM tire seal. I have noticed at 2 seperate Auto-X events my front tires will have dropped 2-3 psi cold pressure afterward. Rear are fine. No air loss under any other circumstances, just hard driving for Auto-X.
I read about it, but I don’t have any air loss, maybe it’s the updated version of the wheels or whoever mounts the tires.

Yea I’m just few 100 miles from 10k be 2 years late July.
I put and even cost of anti seize on this part of the apex wheels (the mating surface). Picture is back of the oe wheel

This is what I did, and I also cleaned up the crud around the axle ring, sorry not sure what it’s called ?. Been a week and no noise.

Just wanted to bump this and see if the noise has come back for anyone? I thought you all were crazy but decided to apply some anti seize upfront just to see. And damn if it didn't get rid of the noise.... Granted I also did a thorough clean out and rotated tires.

Still no noise… all good. I cleaned everything, there was some junk around the center hub area, not sure what it’s called but the center ring that’s on the axle, which I put the anti size around that And a thin coating on the whole apex wheel hub contact area and inside the connecting area. Been a month now and still good.

Have a big autocross tomorrow, will see if it can survive that, it's what really made the noise louder for me.

Also, I have one new Apex rim up front and one old, interested to see if one has issues holding air over the other. I have noticed some psi drop in the front during events, and wondered if it's a seal issue with the OEM tires.

@StingertimeNC pretty sure had this issue previously. They've apparently revised the rim design to resolve this but obviously not for the older wheels.

Yep, I had this problem as well. Had to switch to Continentals. The older design VS-5RS didn't always play well with Michelin tires. Not just limited to PS4S. Saw evidence across other forums too.

What's strange is three were fine, but one always lost air depending on where the leaky area was sitting in relation to the ground. Like it would hold air for a few days, then lose all air within an hour. Craziness. Oh, with no weight on it, it wouldn't leak either. Had the wheel off looking for leaks and it was completely fine, even at high pressure. Once we lowered the car back to the ground it started leaking again.

Mine had 1 not seal on initial mounting, remounting fixed it. All 4 hold air for months no problem. But after an AutoX my front tires end up lower psi than rear, so worried they are breaking seal under heavy loading. (Cold before 35/32 after 30/32).

For tomorrow I have one OG Apex and one New Apex rim in front, will see if the new (new logo and knurling) holds air better.

So good news first, still no clicking after a heavy/fast AutoX session. Bad news is as assumed, the OG Apex are losing air under heavy load. All OG except RF = newer knurling.

It's also a common occurrence with a broken/poor valve or if you have a nail or small puncture.

Unless bent, I haven't had any issues with a tire sealing against the rim, but I would be curious exactly how that would occur if that's the case for you.

That's not the case as I had the same issue when the rears were on the front. It's definitely the Michellins unsealing from the rim which is a known problem for the original knurling on the Apex when used with Michellins.

I have tires spin on the rim all the time under very hard braking. For the track wheels/tires it's not even worth balancing them since they'll move. They don't typically lose air like yours.

So you moved the valve stems around on the wheels and still had air leaking out of a specific wheel? Is apex going to replace them?

They dont continue leaking, they lose air during the run, then will hold it for months. It's bizarre but clearly the new knurling makes a big difference.

I am just going to move to Bridgestones, won't run Michellins again.
