Any one watch this today? Dai Yoshihara used a factory backed modified Type S to set the current FWD record for the Mountain. They almost pulled this off last year but the course was cut short due to high winds. Either way it's a nice little legacy for the future of these cars..

Yeah, I've been following this closely the past few days. It was pretty cool to see how many PRL parts they were running on that car in the engine bay, despite how many folks I've seen online complain about their parts and say they're poorly designed. If it's good enough for HRC and setting records, that is plenty good for me lol.

This doesn't really happen any more with guard rails and being paved...

Happened in 2023. Almost happened last year too. Car looked like if it would’ve dragged the rail a few more inches that way it would’ve tipped over.

I ran the hill climb once in my WRX. Saw hail. Fucking goats (or rams? I dunno?). Rain. Winds had these crazy gusts too. About a third way up I realized how dangerous this run was and everyone that warned me wasn’t actually exaggerating. Last bits of it I was literally at 6/10’s. I refused to go over 50mph

this was about 2013. Fuck that place. Add all the guard rails you want. Hitting one at 120-150mph =zero guarantees.

Any in car camera footage? Like this maybe?

https://mt-washington.com/hillclimb/
I’ve been looking. As of yesterday no footage yet. Maybe they’re editing still? Watching the footage is interesting when U notice some drivers will absolutely not use the outer side of the lane due to fear. From experience watching so many drivers, the British, Germans and Asians do not give a fuck. They get close to the edge. It’s exciting to watch

Unfortunate that an unlimited class VW took the record by 0.07 seconds immediately after. Also, the DE5 had a brake sensor issue toward the beginning that cost them time according to Dai, so it likely would have maintained the record otherwise.

Yeah. The VW had about 150 more hp. Lighter. And tons of aero too

and it beat the integra by such a slim margin. I can’t help but think it proves just how impressive that HRC type s is

I was wondering why it looked like the tires locked up a few times by the puffs of smoke... Didn't realize the VW was FWD that thing had a ton of aero for barely edging it out....

Macpherson set ups can be as great as the mk5 supras. Or not….

I had a mk7.5 GTI myself. Not set up poorly from factory but definitely not great either. That GTI would’ve needed every advantage possible to be truly competitive

I had a 98 Ginster yellow MK3 vr6 with a turbo on it. It was a ton of fun but plowed like a tractor and at high speeds the rear was like a parachute and not in a good way. The weight bias felt about 80% front and 20% rear lol... Fun car but parted way's before I could off myself in it.... Also owned a MK4 R32 that was just a heavy fun turd.. Last two VWs I owned.
