For whatever reason when I try to push the shocks back in there is some mysterious force stopping me. Is there a secret I’m missing?

Is it oriented the right way? There are 4 holes at the top where the bolts go, so it can only go in one way.

Connect the top mount first? I have no idea - just throwing something out there.

No, what I'm saying is there are 4 bolts at the top. Three are arranged in a triangle and a fourth one is between two of those points, so my guess is you probably have to turn it 1/3 or 2/3 of a turn to get everything to line up. Unless I'm not understanding your issue correctly.

Loosely attach the top 4 bolts first, then the whole thing will be in the correct orientation. put some WD-40 all over everything, and push the bottom knuckle back onto the bottom of the strut. May need an extra pair of hands to help.

watch this vid for some ideas as to the process.

I removed the ball joint in the lower control arm to get more play from the knuckle to get the strut in there

is the cv axle boot fully extended? it may have popped out of its housing internally and needs to go back in

Good call on the axle potentially being popped out.

Side note, I just helped my son switch to an Eibach pro kit, on his 2025 Civic Sport, this weekend, and it is in fact a bitch to get the strut bottom into the pinch collar, and takes some serious muscle, especially if you are sitting on the ground with the car on jack stands. also lube is good. If the receiver and the strut are lined up properly, it will go all the way in easily. If it's binding up, that means one or both of the parts are at a slight angle, or even twisted slightly. One other note, we had the brake rotor resting on a floor jack, and even with jacking it up, it simply wouldn't go all the way in. we actually had to get the jack out of the way, so we could pull the bottom of the rotor away from the car, which then lined it up properly. slid right in completely. You need another hand to put the pinch bolt in though. It's tough, not gonna lie.
