In regards to offsetting the lack of airflow to a radiator due to an intercooler that won’t let much air through

it has a shroud. It’s got a fan. And physics is a thing. Jump in Hondata and set fan speeds up 5% faster per temp column. Test. Boost again another 5%. Test. Repeat. Eventually you’ll either get close or better but at least it’ll work

we did this on hptuners for the ion redlines and cobalt ss’s when they upgraded to monstrous air to water heat exchangers. Worked perfectly. We expected a lot of wear on the fan but it never happened. Fans just took it fan
Love that idea. Right under my nose and never even thought of that.

Just keep in mind. Fan will be louder. Probably won’t notice it any till you’re in a long drive through line or bumper to bumper traffic and the like.

Once you're moving, the fan is irrelevant. It starts to act as a flow restriction, which is why racecars remove them entirely.

The impact to airflow via the intercooler can be pretty significant. Even basic grill guards that look 90% open can dramatically impede airflow. The thicker an intercooler is, the longer the air is making contact with the surface and slowing the air down before it reaches the radiator. That reduces the high pressure in front, creating a lower difference between the front and back of the radiator and making it less efficient overall.

To get around that, you can cut much larger louvres into the hood, with proper wickers and a large profile. The hrc hood style ones and typical seibon stuff is not efficient. I find the hrc hood laughable because it's placed more poorly and less efficiently designed than the standard factory louvre, 😂. The large/proper louvre will create a lower pressure inside the engine bay, which will pull more air through the cooling stack.

There’s also the reverse radiator hose thing. Should help a little too.

PRL intake is in. Instructions were so/so. You’ll need a way to get a riveted hose clamp off that they dont talk about in the instructions and every video I’ve watched skips over that part too. It’s like everyone is afraid to admit they got stumped there. Nonetheless the car is back together and it’s running. Had a couple lights on the dash, but they went away almost immediately. It looks pretty good installed. It sounds great. The plastic feels a little cheap to me, but that’s probably just me looking for something.

I had my son install that. I couldn’t be bothered bro. He wanted to hear the woosh and he was frustrated cuz I just let parts sit. So he did it himself.

The HRC DE5 that recently and briefly reset the Pikes Peak FWD record had a PRL intercooler, charge pipes, intake, and a mystery turbo (assuming MHI stage 2 or something), making a probably very conservative 360hp. PRL parts are proven performers 🤷‍♂️ . I think your mod list looks good for your goals, and that is a very solid and well-established set of parts. I have full PRL bolt-ons and a TSP downpipe tuned by Drob, and I would not have my car any other way.

She’s where she’s gonna be for a bit. Eibach pro springs installed. Looks pretty good combined with the spacers.

Downpipe and front pipe are both on B/O. I’ll get the intercooler soon and we’ll tune it. Thought about turbo but don’t wanna spend thousands for another 50 horse or whatever it is. Seems dumb. Plus I need the instant turbo response for Autocross.

I LOVE this car so far. Think we’re in week three of ownership now.
