I know, that is insane. It's like getting your blood tested, as if that's going to show anything important.

Side note, most alligators I've ever been around are pretty chill unless your dumb. Florida man things.
Florida man here 🤚

used to take gators to school and throw them at people. Had them thrown back at me too šŸ˜‚

bro if my blood test comes back clean. As a medical professional. Wouldnt U be all like ā€œ ok so eating dirt doesn’t seem to be an issue and the blood test confirms it but maybe U should still stop?ā€

We had alligators all around the school, you just had to be smart to not walk close to the edge of ponds/lakes.

If I could eat dirt and my blood came back clean, it would be pretty awesome saving all that money on groceries every month.

I switched to the AEM dry flow filter about 7,000 miles ago since the PRL filter was letting a lot of dust inside.

Just so everyone knows, the PRL filter is just one single thin piece of cloth that is see through.

So sounds like, some damage has already been done - sad.
Do any of these companies ever supply any real engineering test data to support their products??
I guess that's why auto manufacturers are so quick to void warranties -- and an excellent reminder to never buy a used car with an aftermarket air cleaner.

That damage is so minimal compared to the 22,000 miles and multiple track days I’ve participated in this first year in a half of ownership.

Yikes! I didn't even look at my PRL filter, I just installed it once I received it. What part number is the AEM dry filter? Luckily I don't drive very much.

Years ago, I ran into a Briggs & Stratton engineer who was part of their engine design team. He told me the single most important factor for their engine longevity was the air filter, and keeping it clean. If you look at a modern lawn tractor engine, which is around 22-28 HP, single or twin cylinder, the air cleaner is large and expensive $25 retail. It's probably as big in surface area as that filter in above pics and yet designed to flow much less instantaneous air volume when running, and for a much shorter operating time (perhaps 25-50 hours).

My opinion - If you are seeing dirt / grit on the "clean" side of an automotive air filter, you've got a problem - even worse if that grit is showing up in your oil.

Filters aren't 100% efficient. You're going to get dirt in your oil, it just should be minimal and not contribute to excessive wear. It's good to have the best filters you can for a given application.

That AEM filter may be better than the PRL one but its likely not as good as the OEM filter. 🤷

You can also relate silicon/dirt levels to wear rate as was done in the SPEEDiagnostix database. Lower is obviously better, but there is a point where it's abnormal and much worse.

I’m sure the aem dry filter filters better than the prl’s. But I’m also willing to bet flow/volume took a hit

that’s the dry filters Achilles heel. U gotta over size a wee bit so flow is improved. And U really can’t considering the size of prl’s box

also. No offense to anyone, like. To be fair. The aem dry filters out do all the oiled filters in regards to filtration (cone style). I am not sure if the aem dry Flo filters filter the best vs all the other options tho.

I'm gonna try the AEM filter and if it doesn't make a huge difference I'm going to curse you guys with 1 solidly stubbed toe (not telling you which one) sometime in the future.

The AEM filter is like a nice sweatshirt compared to the PRL filter is like an old thin worn t-shirt. Definitely a big difference.

I will say the intake noises are slightly, maybe 10% quieter with the AEM on now. Still a million times better then the stock intake noises. lol
