It’s a weird thing people are cool with.
I for one already have dust in the intake post filter. I have a prl intake. It’s filter is straight up trash

I for one am saving up for another intake. There’s a few now that radically change enough to allow a larger dry filter. Dry filters don’t flow as well as the oiled ones. Hence why you’d want more surface area via a larger filter

also. Iirc, the spoon/sprint drop in is supposed to filter well no?
I've got UOAs for every oil change on my car and the PRL filter seemingly does just fine. My silicon and overall wear rate for my latest sample was nice and low so I don't see a reason to switch intakes or to a dry filter and potentially screw up the MAF signal. Certainly the stock filter is better though.

The problem with aftermarket oiled air filters is that people don't service them on a regular basis, and when they do, often use too much oil causing air sensor problems. I've also always thought that if the engine designers thought they could gain valuable horsepower with a simple filter change - they would certainly / already have done so. The biggest uncertainty is wondering if any given aftermarket filter is actually any good (at filtering air) - the risks are huge, the possible rewards very small (if there are any at all). Just use the OEM filter.

You can tell if an air filter is any good by looking at the amount of dirt in the oil. Used oil analysis 🫡

I have about 4400-4700 miles at the moment. I’ve had the intake maybe 2500-3k miles

I swapped its filter after about 2k miles cuz of the dust. I also removed and cleaned the hose

I assure you. Any filter that lets dust through is garbage. Idgaf about oil analysis and who is sucking who’s dick. If a filter don’t filter it ain’t filtering. I also did not start using the internet yesterday, the intake is installed correctly. Even paid the Puerto Rican dude at the rotary shop to double check install. He also made fun of my “bitch ass pistons”

“oye papi, con eso pistones no, cojone”

I drive 100-300 miles a month. I’m cool with just changing the shit filter every few months. I don’t care. I will eventually trash this intake

I get why prl went with an oiled filter. Not enough space for a larger dry filter. I get that. The dry filter doesn’t flow as well as oiled so it’s gotta be larger. Totally get that. And there’s no room for that. But holy fuck it’s as if they didn’t even try thinking outside the box some. Seems like there’s a few options that solved this

regardless. I like my noise maker. And look fwd to eventually upgrading and tossing it in the garbage.

Seeing dust post filter and being cool with it cuz oil analysis said so is crazy work bro. But that’s fine. U pay your own car note. I for one need this car to last till there’s a manual c8 z06.

I would rather use oil analysis to determine how much dirt is getting in the oil rather than speculating. The air past the filter goes into the cylinder, so if there is a filtering problem, it will show up in the engine oil. This is not rocket science. Oil analysis is crucial to power plant operation, manufacturing, etc., for determining when there is a problem.

Air and oil filters also tend to become more efficient at filtering as they're used, due to dust/dirt particles being attracted to each other, so replacing them frequently is counterproductive to filtering efficiency unless it's causing a notable restriction.

I know you've accepted this but you put an aftermarket intake on your car. All of them have worse filters than stock lol. I asked myself the question of whether it's hurting my engine, got the answer, and now I don't care and will continue to run the PRL one because it is filtering enough. Like you said the noise maker is GOOD. It's worth it.

Bro. It’s fine. It’s your car. Do whatever U want. What you do with your car doesn’t affect anyone. 25 plus years of modifying cars and I never seen dust make it through the filter. Granted I never went with oiled filters either because they’re all shit and it’s my fault for not realizing the prl is oiled

regardless. U shouldn’t have to feel compelled to explain yourself or your method. It’s your car and if you’re good with sucking up fine dust then that’s a ok bro. Some of us just have different standards. That’s all

Yeah I know you have your mind made up on things, it's mostly for people reading this and thinking the filter is total garbage. Just providing some push back and context for those who care.

If anyone wants to know if the filter is garbage and is near Denver. Come through. Or we can FaceTime while I crack open the air box for you.

it’s only garbage if you’re not down to swap for a new filter every 2-4k miles. UWU

shame on you for leading people to think it’s a good or decent filter. That’s fucked up bro. Like, what U do to your own car doesn’t affect anyone. But don’t tell people it’s a decent filter bro. That’s not cool.

There will not be a Manual c8. They designed the trans and packaging around the electronics, so I doubt they'd go that path unless they're really willing to make a lot of compromises. I believe Chevy also killed that rumor after some "photos".

I will defend the oil analysis... It does show valid results based off of how much makes it through. That said, when it comes to aftermarket filters and intakes, the biggest issues around filtration tend to be the gaskets in the system more than the media. Even filters like the spoon, aem, etc can be installed slightly wonky or with some debris and the gasket moves enough or wedges enough to allow dust through. Air takes the least resistive path, so even a small hole in the filter or kink in a gasket can introduce a ton of dust.

Some of this also depends on your service mileage. Oem filter is designed around 10k mi for single yearly service mindset w/ oil, but if you're pulling your dirty wet/dry media filter and cleaning every 3k miles while you're doing more frequent oil changes, the concentration of particulates goes down.

Alright, well if you're ever in the PNW and want to see a properly installed intake let me know!

Pass. Bro judges the quality of his install via oil analysis 😂

is that alligator dangerous. Only way to find out is by seeing if the bread they’re using on that po boy is fresh.

kinda what you’re doing in my eyes. Regardless. It’s your car. U do U bro

LOL!

Dude if I owned a vette (again) I'd be compelled to keep it in the garage and only pull it out when it's dark and no one can see I own it 🤣. Like you with your skyline! C8s are fast, but I hate driving them. Brakes and steering lack so much feel, and even the butt feel is poor despite the engine and drive location. The c7 grand sport is still the better driver's car.

Last lotus i drove was an evora with a manual. If the emira is equivalent to or better than the evora, it's still 100x the car out of most anything else on offer right now. A few cars out there beat it on feel, but they're not road legal.

I know, that is insane. It's like getting your blood tested, as if that's going to show anything important.

Side note, most alligators I've ever been around are pretty chill unless your dumb. Florida man things.

I always wanted a vette bro. Always dreamed of being able to set aside enough pennys for one. I just need the z06 with a manual. In regards to the emira I agree but my issue with it is what owners say about reliability. The motor and trans seems solid it’s more so weird software things that can take forever to diagnose. At that point I might as well go with a gt4. The c7 gs was absolutely glorious. I did not like the c7 z06. It was damn scary. It was just too much power for me.

the kids moved out. I have grand kids now. Just really want something fun and manual. Let’s see what the future holds. If they ever make a c8 z06 in a manual I’m gonna talk a lot of shit to U 😂
