So, a lady decided that I wasn't next to her and slammed into the car (2026). Dash cam showed it was her fault, so that's good, but unfortunately now I have to deal with repairs and I'll eventually submit a residual value claim to try and get back some money.

Anyway, to make things worse, the most pressing issue is that the from drivers side fender (60260-31M-A00ZZ) is not available anywhere in the US and they're saying it's on a 29+ day back order. I called a few places that said they have one and either they don't really have it or it's already reserved. That's a really long time to be without the car.

Anyone have tips on how to procure that part a little faster? One dealer looked and found some but they're all already spoken for.

Took me 7 months to get a headlight for my mk7.5 GTI after some lady decided it would be great to do 29mph in a parking garage and slam into a parked car

According to folks from vwoa the (import oem’s) German and Japanese automakers apparently are managing in USA stock in such a way.

and I can’t finish the rest. Cuz I dunno what the rules are here in regards to the orange dude.

regardless. roll with it. There’s gonna be a list of folks waiting.

Dang... It kinda sucks driving a Chevy Malibu as my loaner until this thing gets fixed. I need to figure out how to make a claim for not having fun until the part comes in.

If you enter that part number in Google, it’ll pull up wholesale distributors. I’m pretty sure they use the same network that dealerships use, but it’s worth a try.

This could also be a sign to get carbon fiber fenders…

Can you post a source for carbon fiber fenders for the Type S? Anyone have feedback on quality if so?

This is literally every modern car and I hate it.

Thanks to the miracle of just in time manufacturing, the incentives that are put in place are for parts to arrive at the factory "just in time" to be assembled on a car.

And when one of us idiot consumers dares to damage a part, well it just can't be helped that they only planned to source exactly the right amount of that part this month.

Can't be repairing customer's cars if it means building one less car at the factory for the third shift on Tuesday. That would be a disaster!

☹

My neighbor has a gt350. He got slammed into by a uhaul. One of the smaller ones, not the Van though. Body shop had the trunk, rear bumper and both lights in less than a week and a half….

Not bad imo

Ford does do pretty good most of the time on parts availability. The bumper was the only GT350-specific part there, though.

That’s fair

Regardless of that. Isn’t it weird how great gm and ford have been solid at availability. Yet imports went from being just as available to not as available?

that’s rhetorical of course. UWU

Wanted to provide a quick update with some good news and info for others in the future.

I call Acura customer service and told them about my situation. They told me that I needed to reach out to the dealer that was ordering the parts and make sure they marked it as a critical backorder. I'm not exactly sure what that does, but it does something in their system. At that point, if the dealership doesn't have an ETA for the part or if it's still showing 29+ days, Acura asked me to call back, reference the order number and the case number they created and they can escalate the response and will do something (don't know what) to get the part fulfillment prioritized.

Now, in my case, before I escalated, but after I called Acura, the dealer was able to find a part in Texas at another dealer that I guess wasn't initially showing up in inventory, so I didn't go through the whole critical backorder process.

But, I guess if you're in a similar situation, Acura at least says they can make things happen, all tied back to this mysterious critical backorder status.
