I took delivery of my 2025 A Spec in April, and I love it. The power and the features - I'm only half way through the 750-page owner's manual!

One issue has come up, though. Every once in a while, I'll get in the car with the key fob in my front pocket, clamp on the brakes and push the Start button and ... nothing. Even after several tries, I get nothing on the dash. Then, when I hold the Start button down for a few seconds, I'll get a message on the screen, telling me to hold the Acura logo on the key fob against the Start button. After doing that, the car will start normally.

The owner's manual says that, if you have trouble like this, it's usually a dead battery in the key fob. I have changed the battery with no results. I still get the intermittent fail-to-start problem.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Do you have anything else in your pocket with the fob? I’ve found these Acura fobs get “blocked” if you have a phone or a wallet (or other items) in there with them. I think it’s a known issue now that I’ve googled a bit.

I noticed this as well. it's the only keyfob that's ever done that so i keep the keys in a separate pocket with nothing else.

Try using the other key fob and see if you can replicate your issue with the other key

Happens to me every time I have my headphones in my pocket.

When I'm wearing regular pants, yes, the fob is next to my wallet. When I'm wearing shorts or pants with extra zipped pockets, the fob is in a pocket by itself. I'll check to see if this makes a difference. With the proliferation of credit cards with a chip in them, I could see how this might be a problem.

Also, be sure to use a fresh battery, not a battery that has been in your drawer for 3 years prior to install.

Not starting, occasionally on unlocking. Proximity, pushing the button with the fob out, either way. By the time I decide to get the metal key out it works…
