My year long project is finally completed. These were initially going to be for a MK8 GTI that I was converting into a Euro spec Clubsport, but ended up selling the GTI for a MK8 Golf R.

I still wanted the seats and I loathe the OEM seats in the Type-S, so I rendered a new design and sent it off to the builder in the UK.

This is the final result.

Next up is shipping, purchasing the slider mounts and mounting hardware.

These look good. Looks like they could've been factory bucket option. Are they heated?

Yes, they are heated.

I was definitely going for the OEM+++++ look.

Saw these on I think FB? they look amazing, nicely done.
Can I ask, what was the cost all told if others wanted to consider this.

Wanted to knock down a bit of the noise in the car, especially on the highway. Added some heavy sound deadening and foam on top to the trunk area and doors.

Before:

Sound Deadening Materials. Used all the foam but only about half of the heavier material.

First Layer, no logic here, just cutting pieces to any large exposed metal areas:

Added the foam layer:

Did the doors as well with a few pieces of the sound deadening on the shell inside the door and then just did a layer of foam on the inside:

Probably took 3-4 hours just to do those areas, and ~$120. Not night and day difference but I no longer get any drone even when in sport +. Biggest thing that made me notice how much quieter it was, is that usually I set the volume to 10 while I'm on the interstate, but now I can leve it at 6-7 comfortably.

May decide to add more in the future, but I'm happy with it for now.

Pricing will really depend on what you're goal is with the seats.

In my case, I designed them to have an OEM look.

- Sourcing Recaro CS seats
- Disassembly and repair of the seats
- Red Napa leather re-trim with Alcantara suede inserts
- Both seats are fitted with heating elements on the seating area all the way up the back
- Type-S and Recaro logos debossed into the leather
- The backs of the seats trimmed in red Napa leather

All said and done, the project cost about $8,000 USD

WoW, that is a commitment.
I think they are amazing though and will offer you the support of the Type R or maybe better on the track while retaining the looks and functionality of the seats, well done.

Opening up the door seals and throwing some of the butyl mat on the outside door shell also helps a ton with resonance in the doors. I still need to do my rear doors, but after doing the trunk and fronts it was a pretty good difference, especially since I added butyl and foam to the nooks and crannies of the door card, which made the plastic and door materials feel much more premium. I also COATED the subwoofer box, which helped tighten up bass a bit.

Most of the road noise I hear now is coming from front wheel wells/firewall and rear doors. I've noticed the floor in our cars is a lot quieter than the civic type r. Substantially so once you do the doors.

Also, the rear seats come out really easily so you can get further forward and under the seats with the foam and butyl. That makes a small difference in sound, but really tones down rear seat vibration.

I did this a few weeks ago just in time for my 1st track day with the car. Ordered an extra seat harness and heating element to keep my OE seat's harness in tact. Added a Bride seat heater for the Stradia III and was able to wire it into the factory plugs and use the factory switch for the seat heater. Heater works much better than the OE one. Swapped out the seat belt buckle for one out of an Odyssey as the Integra buckle sat a little high for my liking. Had to adjust how I get in and out of the car, but driving the car aggressively on track was a joy being planted in the seat and able to just focus on driving. Seat is definitely sized to the average Japanese person and fits me perfectly.

I did the acuity shifter linkage bushings today and decided to wrap the cast aluminum charge pipe in gold because aluminum conducts heat well and this pipe is a few cm from the block. Linkage bushing made a marginal difference. Getting into R and 1st there's a bit less resistance, but so far I can't tell too much more. I was hoping these would resolve the 3-2 clunkiness and grind, but we'll see on track. Fwiw, I have never had a grind or issue going from 1 to 2, but I also shift out of first around 8-10mph. 1st is literally for getting moving anyway, so after 5mph it's unnecessary. 3-2 is my main issue since the car just hates dropping into second quickly. It makes setup for hairpin corners with decreasing radius quite tricky. Lots of those coming up at hallet so I'm looking forward to seeing if this helps.
