Yeah, it's not a small job. Calipers, rotors have to come out, the hub as well, and I'm pretty sure the ABS sensor runs there somehow, so you have to make sure that's rerouted (and heat wrapped). If you did it in your driveway I'd think it's a 4-6 hour job.

Poor person's version would be to just remove the caliper and rotor and carefully sawzall out whatever you can get to. I haven't looked to see how much you can get it out.

EDIT: I was just thinking of the front end. If you want to do the rear as well it's a full-day at least for one person using normal people tools. To do it right it's a weekend. But if you ever change rotors it's worth considering.

That's about spot on for first time doing it. Once you stop caring about being as careful (when you're sitting there swapping in paddock) you'll go much faster, too ?.

No need to take out pads, just undo the caliper bolts, then shake that mofo violently and pull it off ?. Just make sure you're over something soft so the pads land somewhere not concrete!

I've had some old ones in the fleet but not that one, it's a 1st gen accord from a car show.

Confirmed from the dealer today, they can’t attribute the noise to anything other than the wastegate. They did note that mine was particularly obnoxious.

I’m not sure if this news is comforting or even more irritating. Good that it’s “normal”, also irritating that it’s just part of the ownership experience…

This engine is shared across a variety of cars; is it just the DE5/FL5 that suffers from this?

There's a big vent on the hood of the De5 and FL5. That's going to be certainly much louder than not having it and having some hood insulation.
