Lol.. Using some AI credits to see if we can armchair engineer the vented rear rotors...

VW atlas has rear calipers with EPB that can handle 22mm rotors. I happen to have an Atlas...

Apparently would need to test the electrical resistance and draw of the oem vs the atlas caliper, and if they're similar could make a custom jumper harness to connect them. If the atlas is the donor, apparently we'd have to make a 2 piece aluminum rotor hat that fits 5x120 instead of atlas 5x112 but bolts to the atlas part. Needs 64.1mm center bore and it'd need to address axial offset. Would also need a custom mounting bracket/adapter for the caliper with correct axial alignment. And last, would probably need custom brake lines and figure out if the rear brake bias is bad.

Would people want a 305mm or something like 330mm or 340mm rotor? Maybe we can just 80% design it and send it off Lol

It's not, not doable, but it's a hell of a lot harder to do than Ai will make it seem, lol.
Might be easier to just 3d print a scoop thingy to smack the back of the rotor with air. Only heard of one guy doing this and actually taking notes

he got the rs3 thingies and fixed em to his GTI. In daily driving scenarios he saw an average reduction of as much as 70f. However on track, he was seeing his operating temps run damn near 300f cooler. With his cool down lap literally settling the rotor temp quickly

this was only on the front rotors tho. The way the rs3 thingies are scooped, not a great design too. He worked with what he had tho

maybe yall can do something like that for the rear?

It would need to be abs or asa and might still melt in that area.

That's a good thought though! I had the rs3 and Porsche gt3 deflectors on my gti. Broke the rs3 so then went to the Porsche ones because they were smaller. You might even be quoting one of my results or Joe's results actually šŸ˜….

They make a massive difference in front, and they could in the rear as well. My X7 and q7 both have rock guards and air deflectors on the rear lower axle and you can easily see the lack of brake dust where the air is being directed. They're clearly effective there. We do have them on the front where they work in conjunction with the grill opening to deliver a standardized hole in the wheel well for air. My plan is to try and shove some tubing from the hole to the back of the rotor, but packaging in that area is quite tight and prone to spinny bits making contact.

I know I had a few sets of those things, so I'll see if I can find them and if they might just fit. They literally zip tie on (with a "special" zip tie šŸ™„). Though turning off traction control is what helps dramatically drop those temps anyway.

Definitely a tiny world!

My 3d printer can print abs, so I can do some functional prints. The challenge is really finding the time to do the measurements and then print, test, measure a bunch of times to get it right.

I'm also not sure if I see the market for it. It would certainly help in the situations where people are really running the rear hot (vcs on and car 90% at the limit), but I'm not sure how much it would help the average enthusiast. I'm sure they'd expect more life out of the pads or something, but their regular commute might not make that quantifiable. A lot of people also go to the bigger rear setup for looks and try to balance with pad, which is okay, but it increases track disposable costs.

Someone like you with long decline areas might benefit.

Oh no in terms of market. You’d probably sell maybe 50 sets the first month. But after that, maybe a few a month but I’m sure there will always be tons of interest

it’ll have to be a labor of love I guess.
