From what i saw on the web the blame is towards the studs and factory torque specs and not the gasket. I have not seen a consistent message on an upgraded gasket to use. The prescription is to use upgraded studs and more torque with a fresh factory gasket. Ultimately its a bad design with a very thin area with a coolant slot between cylinders. So is a problem with the gasket or with the torque specs for the bolts? Before this car I had a '19 Civic Si that got totalled with 81K+ on it. No HG issues. I was planning to upgrade the studs on the new car anyway, but that was before I knew about the HG issue. I know it's not the "right" way, but had been planning to do it the one stud at a time method, but if the HG is crap anyway, I might as well do it the right way anyway. If the dealer only replaces the old HG with a new OEM HG, sounds like it's more of a torque spec issue. Anybody got any clarity on this?
Thanks! Sounds like my idea of using the one stud at a time method might work to keep everything working smoothly. But ultimately I would be best served to do it the proper way, and replace the HG when I replace the studs. Damn, that's a ton of work! From what i saw on the web the blame is towards the studs and factory torque specs and not the gasket. I have not seen a consistent message on an upgraded gasket to use. That is a documented method and some folks have done this pre-emptively. Obviously its do at your own risk. On some Civic forums I saw people say they were successful with the replace with upgraded studs and more torque before it happens....Thanks! Thanks! I didn't get to it on my Civic before it got totalled, and obviously haven't done it yet on the Integra, but am I correct in assuming that the upgraded studs have higher torque specs? Or do I just need to do that myself? That is a documented method and some folks have done this pre-emptively. Obviously its do at your own risk.
