Tire Upgrade

Searched through Tires and Wheels and found some references to tire upgrades but not a lot. Looking for anyone that changed out their OEM Conti's - recommendations/review/how noticeable on what they got. Below is my post from tires and wheels for more detail:

Just purchased a A-Spec 6 speed manual and I am in the throws on whether or not to swap out the OEMs (I've never been impressed with OEM tires manufactures use). The Conti's aren't bad and better than most so trying to justify dropping $650 plus on the swap (Discount Tire did offer me $80 a tire for the Conti's).

Anyway, how has the ride been since you put these on? I was looking at these (DWS 06 Plus) and the Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 tires. I don't rock and roll with my vehicles as much anymore so I probably place emphasis on low noise and ride as much as handling.

Appreciate anyone's input/experience on your change of tires over the OEM Conti's and how noticeable it was? Any other tires I should consider (know the Michelin PSA4s are another popular one with great ratings)

Thanks, Folks at Tire Rack and Discount Tire are both big on the DWS 06+ And Pirelli's. Both said DWS had a little bit of a handling edge where as the Pirelli's were slightly quieter. DWS06+ were $10 less per tire than the Pirelli's so leaning that way.

I'd lean more towards max performance summer tires like the PS4S in FL. Continental also has the ExtremeContact Sport 02 (ECS02). DWS06+ is a UHP all season tire

They aren’t a snow tire, that’s for sure. But I have driven with them in snow and they were acceptable. I have other vehicles to drive if I need to during winter months so I never really gave them a truly solid winter test.

I assume that you have the Conti Extremecontact Sport 02. The DWS 06 Plus is an all season tire, not a summer performance tire, so you would probably notice some diminished traction and handling response, but maybe the noise level and ride quality would suit you better, a personal choice.

I would recommend watching the tire rack comparison of high performance all season tires. I got the Pirelli P-Zero AS+3 for my “winter” set up on my ITS based on my climate. I get cold weather, but not a huge amount of snow. I valued great wet and dry performance over snow performance, so I went with the Pirelli’s over the Conti’s.

I can’t speak to real world performance yet. I haven’t yet put my winter wheel/tire set up on, as it’s still hot here in Cincinnati. I’ll know more in a month or so once I swap out.

I get cold weather, but not a huge amount of snow. I valued great wet and dry performance over snow performance, so I went with the Pirelli’s over the Conti’s.

I can’t speak to real world performance yet. I haven’t yet put my winter wheel/tire set up on, as it’s still hot here in Cincinnati. I’ll know more in a month or so once I swap out.

I have the P-Zero AS+3's on my wife's CRV and have been very impressed with them, of course we don't get much winter weather down here in the FL Panhandle. However, we did manage to get a surprise snowfall of 8 plus inches this past winter, being from upstate NY I wasn't thrilled since I thought I left my snow shoveling days behind me (we usually get a dusting every 3 years or so, so this was a record).

Didn't have the Pirelli's at the time so can't say how they handled - of course not sure I would go out in winter conditions with southern drivers all around. I'm leaning towards putting them on the Integra since they had the better score/rating for noise and ride, although I'm still trying to rationalize changing out tires on a new vehicle (other than the tire dealer is giving me $80/tire trade in to take some of the sting out of it). Dealer swears either the Pirelli or Conti DWS06 will be a major ride upgrade - of course he just wants to sell tires.

If I lived somewhere without cold temps, I’d be on these summer tires year round. Unfortunately, I have the need for an all season based on my climate. I’m excited to see how they perform once I switch them out in the next month or so.
