Went on a cruise with some folks this past weekend. Was able to keep up with the 911’s on the tight windy roads. As a matter of fact, I took the lead for a while, as I think you have to be a much better driver in that car to get the most of it. Either way, was a fun trip, and was the first time I pushed the car on some back roads. Definitely a blast. Wish I could give photo credit, but these were sent to me by someone else. Although he apparently gave permission for us to use them as we’d like.

Lineup:
992 911 gts
991 911 carrera
991 911 carrera 4
C8 Corvette
C7 Corvette
E92 335i

Sounds like a great time, but this is an Interesting take and I'll take the opportunity to comment.

First of all- How exactly does one "take the lead" on a public road with a posted speed limit of 35mph?

I don't necessarily agree or disagree with your assessment- I'd say both the DE5 and the (991 and up) 911 both are cars that "lower the barrier of entry" and allow a driver to easily access the potential of the car. I'm actually kind of on the fence on which car has a higher learning curve with which to "get the most out of it"... the 911 does sort of stand alone with being rear-engine/rear-drive but the DE5 is similar in that it's front-wheel drive, which is not a natural advantage for a sports car. But honestly I struggle to see how anyone is going to be "getting the most" out of any car in a setting like Skyline Drive.

What I'll say is, having owned both cars and experienced extended drives on windy public roads, I still easily prefer the 911 if I had the choice. In fact, the 911 was the first car that actively made me want to wake up early in the morning on a weekend and take a drive just for the sake of driving. Not even the DE5 continues to do that on a routine basis. Today is a perfect example of that- it's a perfect 74 degree sunny day in early fall and here I am, sitting on my ass when I could be driving...

Anyway, just because I have an affinity for 911s doesn't diminish the simple fact that the DE5 is in the conversation with a car that even used and 10 years old is still twice the price of, that's still a hell of a feat of engineering. It can and does "keep up" with any car in this setting, and I'd argue is all the car anyone would ever need on public roads.

There were portions of the road that were 2 lanes… the road we drove was def longer than the 300 feet you see in the pics that was a single lane. Have a nice day.
