Hey everyone,

I've been putting together a list of some cosmetic parts to work towards, and i wanted to make sure everything will work.

I actually got the OEM carbon fiber mirror cap upgrades, but i kinda wanna switch them out for the Mugen ones -> https://jhpusa.com/products/mugen-carbon-fiber-door-mirror-cover-set-22-civic-civic-type-r-fl1-fl5

I also want those hydrophilic LED mirrors for the side mirrors -> https://blackhawkjapan.com/products/mugen-76200-xnr-k1s0-1

I'm honestly a bit nervous about taking off the mirror caps, i heard they were kinda annoying to take off. looks like you can use a trim tool to pop them forward, not 'up' towards the sky? Either way I'm assuming that the mirror and caps will both work together?

I've also been eyeing the mugen carbon fiber engine cover and chamber cover. i thought i read somewhere that the chamber cover only fits the FL5 but i thought the DE5 used the same part #.

if you're getting the MUGEN HYDROPHILIC mirror you're going to have to pop off the stock one. It's a lot easier to pop off the mirror cap from the inside since there are clips you can push. If not, you can sort of angle the mirror a bit to get a plastic pry tool to push the clips.

word i'll make sure i pop the mirror off before trying to mess with the cap, got it. i mainly just wanted to make sure the mirrors would work with those group B mirror caps. i suppose the caps dont change the shape of the mirror housing and is a dumb question, i just wanted to make sure before i pulled the trigger on them both

MUGEN HYDROPHILIC mirror Blackhawk was out of stock 4 weeks ago and I ended up getting them from RHD. I think it was cheaper than BH too and took 5 days to get to me on the westcoast.

Super easy to install. I was fussy with trying to organize the wiring but even then it took me less than 45mins to do both.

Removing the cap is also easy since you already removed the mirror. Below link is a good video on this and all you need are two flat head screw drivers. If you have a long flat head, it will come in handy if one of the hidden side clips is stubborn.

If budget allows, may as well go for the folding mirror upgrade while doing this. Agree with the others on how to remove the mirror caps though, wasn’t too bad

I almost certain those mugen mirror caps aren't a direct replacement but another overlay with double sided tape. Probably wont need to remove your stock mirror caps

this is a great video, thanks for posting it. he mentions though that the mugen mirror caps aren't carbon fiber, and the group B ones for the FL5 definitely are -> https://jhpusa.com/products/mugen-carbon-fiber-door-mirror-cover-set-22-civic-civic-type-r-fl1-fl5

either way, i take it that any mirror cap for the FL5 will work on our cars, with the LED mirror as well

last i checked nobody was able to get them fully implemented correctly? i haven't checked lately but last i saw in the ongoing thread about it, people who tried to install it weren't able to get it to function correctly- i think i remember reading that the mirror would tilt down but wouldn't tilt back up or otherwise had some issue with it having an improper range of motion.

trust me i'd love to consider folding options but i didn't think they were gonna work!

That’s the mirror tilt function on reverse (which doesn’t do much in terms of enhanced safety/visibility, especially with the now wider field of view you get with the Mugen mirrors). The side folding though is flawless and adds a nice touch when locking and unlocking the vehicle.

I opted just not to wire in the tilt feature and was pretty straight forward to install. I used the mikstore F kit for the Hondas as I’m pretty sure the F kit for the acuras is for the A-spec and I have a type S

I'm like 99% sure it's just a cap that sits over the stock. You can kind of see it in the picture where the FL5 gloss black mirror cap is sort of peeking out a bit. I was a bit surprised even the Mugen Center console is not a direct replacement as well and just an overlay for the price they charge.

From what I've seen throughout the FK8 and FL5 Mugen mirror caps were just overlays. Not the exact one you posted but another Mugen One but you get the general idea.

EDIT: Here is the instructions.. I can't tell, first it looks like they want you to remove the stock cap but the later instructions suggest to use doublesided tape.

https://online.mugen-power.com/nmos/upfile/pro/76205-XNRD-K0S0.pdf

Edit2: After reading the instructions more, it looks like it's stuck on with double-side tape. At the beginning section wants you to remove the mirror cap just for temporary measurement with the Mugen using masking tape and in the end, the Mugen will sit over the stock one with double-side tape.

Also folding mirrors work fine, just people are having issues with the tint function which is different kit you can purchase. Source, I have folding mirrors on mine without tilt function since the JDM mirrors tend to have a wide view, I can see the curb without tilting.

sweet thanks for the input. im sorta interested in the folding mirrors but after looking at all the install instructions it's way more work than i want to do. that and it looks like you lose your color matched mirror base unless it's possible to switch them. plus i absolutely hate taking interior plastic trim apart, it's so brittle and fragile it freaks me out lol

what is the difference between the 2 folding mirror kits in their store - one has all the different A/B/C models to choose between, and the other has you select by actual trim, and has an option for the FL5

https://mikstoreph.com/products/civ...signal-and-folding-kit?variant=45152050544890
https://mikstoreph.com/products/civic-2022-side-mirror-auto-folding-kit?variant=44409511117050

so the reverse tilt currently has no functional offerings from anyone and probably never will? i guess that's fine, i get that the mugen mirrors have a wider field of view but i sorta wanted the reverse tilt anyway lol.

You need the F kit, as I mentioned and yes you CAN have the reverse tilt as the wires are included in the F kit. You don’t lose your color matched mirrors, I showed you the picture of mine showing I kept the painted base and mirror caps.

As mention above, I went with F-kit before they came out with an F-Kit with autotilt. You will have to swap out your stock color base with the mikstore kit. Either you have to depin the stock connector since the connector is too thick to slide the rubber grommet and base out. Second option is to cut the rubber grommet since it's the faster easier way.

F-Kit is almost plug-in-play, you just need to run 2 additional wires from the main control connector to the mirror connector which are provided. Just need to follow instructions where to insert the wires.

For the tilt, I'm hear mix bag on not working correctly or barely tilting down. I was debating to upgrade to tilt but Mikstore customer service didn't really offer a good solution to upgrade other than repurchasing the whole kit.

i thought the thing with the tilt was that it would tilt down, go to far down, and then get stuck outside its range of motion and be unable to tilt back up. something along those lines. either way, if it isn't going to work, i wouldn't bother with that autotilt kit. the whole folding mirror install is a bit too involved for me anyway- i would pay someone to do it, but i doubt i'm ever going to bother. i do want the LED mirrors though lol
