Check this car beyond the power and price specs. You'll see some clever solutions borrowed from their rally/racing expertise.
- the reviews indicate an exciting car to drive and pretty fast (not CTR level of performance though)
- I love the design: it's bold, has personality, stands out just like the CTR
- the interior looks awesome, sporty and a bit elegant
To me this is car-porn. Congratulations to Hyundai for having balls to continue innovating and bring exciting products for different niches. Like this one for the enthusiasts(what Honda was doing in the 90's / early 2000s). Instead of selling wannabe sporty cars like most manufacturers do nowadays. Sadly Honda seems to be doing the same lately with Civic XI and Integra.

I own a CTR '19 PMM and a Sedan '19 1.5 M/T. The CTR will stay but I'm tempted to exchange the Sedan for the Elantra N. This car looks more special to me than the regular Civic X. Moreover there's no comparison to the bland Civic XI / so-called "Integra".
Really Hyundai/Kia is taking up where Ford left off.
Focus RS 350HP
Focus ST 252HP
Fiesta ST 200HP
Fusion Sport (320hp AWD)
Taurus SHO (365HP AWD)

When Ford killed off its car market it took out a LOT of what was holding up the sport compact market. No other brand had as many. Honda was just the Si and CTR, VW was GTI and R. Chevy and Dodge had NOTHING. Mazda has had nothing since the Mazdaspeeds were killed. The 86/BRZ are KIND of in that market, but less practical. Subaru only has WRX/STI that have barely changed in a meaningful way in YEARS.

That said I cant think of ANY car made after the S2000 that will be as legendary as any of the late 80's early 90's cars, aside from maybe the Focus RS, and people need to STOP comparing modern cars to them because they will ALWAYS be disappointed. Rules, safety regulations and emissions have long killed those cars off. If you want a 90's car, go get one, but youre going to be working on it or constantly changing things to add what you want like Bluetooth, or for it to not feel gutless next to a modern Altima, or it to get the MPG that modern Altima will get too.

Aside; seriously, a modern Altima willg et 40+MPH reliably on the HW with a 185HP 2.5L, imagine how quick and the MPG youd get if that drivetrain was in a 1999 Sentra. It would be a beast of a Spec-V for back then. Just like if you told someone in 2001 the next BASE Integra would be a sport liftback with a 200HP turbo engine and an LSD. Honda guys would have lost their minds in joy.

If you like the Elantra N, that's cool. But that doesn't mean you have to bash Honda.
The looks are nothing more than personal preference.
I personally think Elantra N's the worst looking N we've seen so far, but that's just my opinion.

Hyundai isn't doing magic here. They are just making decent cars (which some brands fail to do)
Their PR will make you think they are the only ones that are doing everything right.

Elantra N will be amazing to drive, I have no doubt about it.
But it's not right to treat it like the absolute truth or anything.
Like everything else in the price range, it has pros and cons.

So, It all comes down to personal preference.
Your personal preference leads you to Elantra N, that's great.
But not everyone has to agree.

Few things to note:
At lower speed, it's probably as fast as the CTR, may be even faster.
Definitely more fun to drive.
I recommend getting DCT. It's amazing and their 6MT is garbage.

I agree. They are more about being "fun," just like how Ford's performance cars were like.
Not sure anybody else would agree but I personally think that the Veloster N feels like a cheap, FWD FoRS.
Hell, Hyundai even took one of the RS engineers from Ford. lol

Too bad Ford isn't into everyday performance cars anymore.
Ford Europe still has three ST variants that we don't get here, including the MK.4 Focus ST.
I don't understand why they can't do what VW's doing with the Golf 8 and bring the ST here.

Don't want to sell sedans and hatches? Fine, Puma ST? Escape with Focus ST powertrain?

I'm not comparing current cars with 90s ones. I just wanted to stress that there was an era with great enjoyable cars, bringing notable technical advancements at affordable prices. It's something that you barely see nowadays.
Most manufacturers play it safe by releasing subdued suvs or sedans heavy/bloated full of ornaments/junk with sporty ambitions. Been there done that. The 4 series GC I drove looked great sporty, too bad it did not drive even half as sporty as it looked.

I am not bashing Honda, I am stating my personal opinion. That they play it safe while others like Hyundai have more competitive/aggressive offers. I am not saying it's something absolute. I just think that in this price range, this car has a lot to offer and it has something special. The same thing with CTR, some say is ugly, I love how it looks.

I drive 2 Hondas that I enjoy(especially CTR) but I am not exclusive into this brand. I like cars in general. If something better comes up I might consider it. Of course it rests to be seen how it performs in real life, reliability, the ownership experience.

There is rumor the Puma may come over.

You had me agreeing until the “so-called integra” part. It’s an integra people. For no other reason than Acura says it is.

I dunno man… with the Integra starting at 30k an Elantra at 34k is hard to wrap my head around. Hyundai deserves credit for making some decent performance cars but interior/exterior don’t hold up well when compared to Civics let alone what the Integra will look like.
Have you been in current gen upper trim Hyundai/Kia vehicles? Not taking anything away from the new civic interior, but the Hyundai is better. My wife’s Sorento SX Prestige has quilted Napa leather, 2 10.25” screens, all soft touch real stitched dash, piano black, etc. Every tech feature imaginable, and ergonomically excellent and well thought out. Also IMO the Sorento exterior is the best looking SUV on the road right now. By a lot.

Also keep in mind that the 34k Elantra is top trim. The 30k integra is a base.

We all know the N is a helluva performer but the looks aren't for everyone. Me, I like cars that look a bit different than every cookie cutter car out there. And at least in my opinion, the N looks especially great in the darker colors. This particular blue is sharp looking.
