Installed my acuity shifter the other day. While I was in there, I fixed the rattle I had around 4-4.5k rpm coming from the center console in the passenger side vibrating all the way through the drivers side by adding foam and taping the duct. It seems like the FL5/DE5s are plagued with this issue and I figured y'all would be interested in the fix for it.

Materials needed:
  1. Foam weather stripping tape
  2. Aluminum tape for ducts
Instructions:
  1. Take apart the center console see acuity docs or videos online for shifter or rear vent install
  2. You will notice that the duct connector that routes air to the center console down to the rear floor was very loose. Take that connecting piece and put it aside.
  3. Stick weather stripping around the outer edges of the top duct. Do the same for inner edge of the bottom duct. (I had to split the weather stripping tape in half because it was too thick, you might have to do that too in order to get the plastic connector piece back in there)
  4. Place the connecting piece back in. It will be tight but should feel very snug after doing so.
  5. Wrap the top duct and the connecting piece around with aluminum tape.
  6. Done. Feel that it’s snug and it should be good to go

This completely eliminated the rattle I had around 4-4.5k rpm rattle.

Nice. Mine had that from day one. At the time I didn't know anything about how common it was and the dealership denied that it was common pretending it wasn't a known thing. So it went back to them for nearly a month and they "fixed" it. I'm not sure what steps they took. I think I would have preferred to do it myself knowing everything after the fact. I have had to tear apart much of the dash to isolate vibrations. I've solved some, yet continue to hear others.

Enjoying the shifter so far? What would you say you notice most versus stock?
Honestly, the stock shifter was amazing yes, couldn't ask for more.

My previous car was an nd Miata w/ its wonderful shifter so I haven’t given enough appreciation that the ITS deserves.

It's still not as raw feeling w/ the Acuity shifter since it’s still a cable shifter in the end but the change is very nice in a diff way.

I would have been totally happy with the stock one but I was bored and found an amazing deal on one locally so I said why not.

One thing I noticed is the springs are stiffer slightly, still easily dailyable. The amount of adjustment and the difference each makes is lot more than I imagined. Lastly, the side to side movement was already pretty tight and the acuity shifter eliminates even that. Almost 0 side to side movement.

Did you have to pull any of the carbon wrapped trim? Did the carbon or trim under it survive removal if so?
