Went to the dealership to get a routine oil change and they told me I already needed to change my rear pads. Is this a normal thing on the type-s? Had 2 civic SI’s before and never had to change the pads this early in my life.

Yeah unfortunately that's how these cars are. The back brake pads are used more then you think . It uses a system called brake called brake vectoring or something like that. Essentially when your driving the back brakes pulse on each side helping stabilize the car and handle better .. something really only high end car utilize . Buuut wears thru faster

My dealer mentioned the same thing when I had about 17k miles. I decided to replace them myself, and it ended up being about 2.5 times cheaper! I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pads still had plenty of life left, but I went ahead and replaced everything anyway.

This Happened on my previous White ITS, I purchased it Feb 9th 2024 new and had to replace the rear pads and resurface rear rotors at 11500 miles (Nov/Dec) 2024. Ever since then I barely used the E Brake button when parking. I just put the car in 1st gear when parked if its on level to somewhat level ground. I did trade it when the car was a little over 16k miles for a new 25 rare Lunar silver a few weeks back and only used the E brake once or twice. Some folks think activating the E brake when the car is parked and pads/rortors are left hot does something to the pads or something to that effect. I will see how the 2025 ITS rear brakes react now while rarely engaging the E brake button when parked.

I'm curious if using the auto hold function might wear out the brakes more quickly. Since I do a lot of city driving and rely on that feature a lot, it’s something I’m thinking about!

Neither of these theories make one iota of sense.

Zero wear from the auto hold.
There is zero movement in the rotor.

When i got my service in they recommended me changing rear brakes. Cars around 14300 miles..
What pads are people going with?
I was thinking about using brembro pads over the oem?

Paragon P3 for street use. Love them. Little more aggressive but really not any more dust than OEM.
