Hi all, has anyone measured the ground clearance on their stock Type S? The official specs say 4 inches but that seems incorrect to me, my lowered BRZ has about 4 inches at its lowest point... Also, the Civic Type R says 4.8 inches, but it doesn't make sense to me that the Type S would have significantly less clearance?

I also wondered about this before I bought the car. I was worried that I might have problems with speed bumps or my driveway. But I’ve found that the thing that actually causes me problems is not the front bumper but rather this black plastic shield-like thing that goes across the bottom front area (I assume for aerodynamics?). I don’t know if that thing is only on the ITS and not the CTR. But if I’m not careful on some inclines, that black shield thing can scrape. Maybe they measure the ground clearance from that?

I took off that front plastic lip when I dropped the car. was scraping on everything. It comes off super easy and would have gotten destroyed.

same. that plastic air dam/shield underneath on my car has been scraping when pulling in/out of driveways. i can see some shredded plastic and burs. i even noticed the same plastic scraped on a few new cars that were in showrooms at dealerships. have to really take driveways/ramps at an angle and even then it scrapes. (also, as a newer manual trans driver, it is nerve wracking as i've stalled a few times while reversing slowly). likewise, when pulling out, i hear something in the back of the car scrape too. not quite sure what it is as the plastic on the rear diffuser and bumper look fine. it might be some part along the exhaust, but i'll have to check when i finally get the car up in the air for a first oil change.

on the other hand, my BMW M235 has similar ground clearance (on paper at least) and similar air dams, but those airdams are a firm/hard rubber material so it has more give and doesn't scrape the material nearly as much nor make that wince-inducing sound.

does that lip/air dam cover anything else or is it separate from the underbody panel covers? does it require the front bumper to be removed too?

It slides right out, mine rubbed so much it's hard to keep on the car. I have had to reattach the driver side once and Passenger side 3 times. And that was before I lowered it.

Yeah I’ve wondered about that as well.

The US spec sheet lists ground clearance as 4.0in as you mention, however the Canadian spec sheet lists it as 122.75mm which is 4.83in.

The Canadian number seems more plausible since even Porsches and Ferraris generally have at least 4.5in of ground clearance.

yep, comes right out just by itself. Has maybe 4 or 6 push pins in it. nothing else needs to be removed. super easy, should take 5 minutes once you know what you're doing.
